does anyone know of a free lpn course in nyc/bronx?

There's no such thing as a free lunch.

The overwhelming majority of us had to pay for our LPN courses. If you're intent on finding a free LPN course, your best plan of action might involve applying for grants and scholarships to cover the entire cost of it. Good luck to you.

Have to agree with TheCommuter...no free schools for LPN. Many apply for the Board of Education's program, which is supposed to be reasonable (I'm hearing $3000 these days), but it is even more competitive than any regular school out there. Have to take the NLN and pass very high.

Maybe you can check with certain employers that offer scholarships which they will pay for school for exchange of employment after you graduate.

i stand corrected about whether there are free programs, but let me just advise the op that you study really, really hard for the net and tabe, because those programs are highly competitive, they may have very limited seats. start inquiring now, and prepare early and well. best of luck!:nurse:

job corps has one as weel you also have to meet some requirement and do the Cna training as well first http://edison.jobcorps.gov/html/home/

YES! You must study for the C-Net and The Tabe. Im currently in the school and i LOVE it! Im so excited! We got our books Yesterday! It doesnt hurt to try though,Just buy the Books ,:specs: and Study your butt off!

I'm not sure about your state, but I do know that if you find a cheap enough school and your income is right, you can go for relatively free using grants and scholarships. What they don't tell you is the cost of health and dental exams, vaccinations, the cost of scrubs, the cost to take the NCLEX, and so on. Grants and sometimes scholarships don't usually pay for those things.

Then you have employers who do loan forgiveness. You sign a contract and they repay your loans, which you still may need even if the school itself is free for the items mentioned above.

Not all employers do that though, many do not.

I hope that helps.

i am in this program, i just started this program myself. i go to the one at goldwater hosptial. the books, uniforms, cpr class are all free. the course is very intense. i agree with what others have told you, start studying now! i started the process about this time last year. if they offer you the prep course, take it! it was a huge help. however, it's not toatally free. in order to receive the scholarship you have to sign an agreement with hhc to work for them for 2 years. still not a bad deal no matter how you look at it.

Carmzz920,

The prep course isn't that intense for what I can remember. Its mostly a review to help with the TABE and the CNET. It's a refresher course with math, reading and vocabulary. It was a HUGE help for me. I had been out of school for over 15 yrs and I don't think that I would've passed the CNET without it! Good luck!!!!:yeah:
