  1. I'm an LPN. Graduated in June of 2009. Passed the state boards in September of 2009 and I'm STILL looking for work!!!! I can't even get into a nursing home!!!! They all want someone with at least 1yr of experience! This is crazy!!! I'm just about ready to give up! I chose nursing because I love it. I never thought in a million years that it would be this hard to find work. I made a career change to become a nurse and now I'm beginning to regret it. My ultimate goal is RN, but I knew that I couldn't go so long without working. I thought I would work FT as a LPN while I returned to school PT for my Rn. I don't see it happening in the near future.
  2. this is for anyone who may still be interested in free lpn programs. i graduated from coler-goldwater's lpn program in june and passed the nclex in sept. (still looking for work though:crying2:) since i have no previous experience in the medical filed i figured since i'm not working i would look into getting for more training that would be relevant to the field of nursing.....phlebotomy, ekg, iv administration. at a job fair i stopped at laguardia community college's booth and they have a workforce for health careers. they offer many different cources including an lpn course.....for free!!!!!
  3. missmurray...don't give up! i believe that paying for the tabe is well worth the benefit of getting into the program next september. the teachers are the cream of the crop. my class graduated in june and so far we have a 100% pass rate. only a handful of my classmates haven't taken the nclex yet. the ones that passed did so on the 1st try. don't be discouraged!!!! keep your eyes on the prize!!!!
  4. Congrats to all of those who have passed their NCLEX, and good luck to those who have yet to take it. I took mine on Sept 16th. The computer shut off at 85. I was soooo nervous! Waiting those two days for the results were killer!!!! Thank GOD i PASSED!!!!!!!!!!
  5. Tallulahbelle, You can start here..... http://www.nyc.gov/html/ceo/html/programs/nurse.shtml This is a link to the Mayor's Center for Economic Opportunity. You should find all of the information you need. You agree to the contract prior to starting the program. The RN program is through Kings County school of Nursing. I believe they are connected to LIU. the LPN program is at Coler-Goldwater Hospital. I hope that this information is helpful. Good Luck!!!!
  6. ccjus123, There is no stipend for those who are not an HHC employee, so be prepared. It's still a good deal. Go to school for 11 months then work for HHC for 2 years.
  7. I agrre with ladyash. You do have to check HHC's website frequently. The postings usually change weekly. Some may only appear for a few days. This week there are quite a few RN positions. They are in different hospitals, but like I said before, you have to check them out. Good luck.
  8. I graduated 6/25/09. I just got my ATT ths morning....Yeah!!!! I scheduled for 9/16/09. I'm so nervous!!! I've been doindg Saunder too, but I've been slcaking lately. Time to pick up the pace!!!! I'm praying for us all!
  9. I haven't taken the boards yet. I'm anxiously awaiting a date. As far as jobs go I've decide to not even apply anwhere else until I'm licensed.
  10. Coler-Goldwater is currently hiring. They have a posting for 25 positions. Also check nyc.gov. Go to the agency listing and click on HHC and then go to employment opportunities.
  11. I'm a graduate LPN as well. Graduated 6/25. My classmates as well as myself are having a difficult time finding employment. Most place won't even offer you an interview without being licensed. Have you experienced this????
  12. I don't believe that ATI is worth the money. I have the books. They were given to all of the students in my school. We are using them now in a review course for the NCLEX. My classmates and I have found conflicting information in the books vs. the assessments. I don't like it all all!!! Stick to Saunders!!!!!
  13. I just graduated for the HHC LPN program and to my knowledge this was the last year that HHC employees would continue to receive their paycheck while attending classes. Anyone shuld be to apply for the scholarship.
  14. During the prep course I took the TABE a few times. I scored just as well if not better each time. Good luck.
  15. I absolutely the the course! The instructors at Goldwater are the best!!!! I start my clinicals on Feb. 4th!!!! I'm excited and scared at the same time. Can't wait!
