Entrance exam questions???

Nursing Students LPN/LVN Students

Hello everyone,

I am taking my LPN entrance exam next Monday..March 31st. I have been studying by books but I was just wondering if anyone has taken this particular exam.

I live in PA and the test is called the ARNETT DET exam. Anyone heard of this or taken it? It supposedly only has math, english, vocab and critical thinking on it. No Science. That is a shame since Science is my strong point.

I am finding the vocab words that I have in my books to be really difficult. I have never heard of most of these words and then trying to match it up with a synonym or antonym is almost impossible for me. YIKES!!!

I am open to any suggestions anyone might have or info if you have taken this exam.

Thanks to all and I am so glad that this forum was made for students.:yeah:

I've never heard of that particular test, personally. I live in PA as well and I took the NET to get into my program. But, based on that test I'd say that brushing up on math is a good idea if it has been a while since you've had it or if you have problems with things like fractions, etc.

Best of luck on your exam! I hope you walk out of there thinking "sheesh, all that worrying for nothing!". ;)

I agree with Meow as well. Never heard of that one before. The only new one is the teas test and That one has science in it.

Thank you both. I also find it strange that there is no science. I called the school today and double checked.

My math skills are really improving. Three weeks ago I had no idea how to figure out a basic algebra problem. Thanks to my hubby and my very smart 11 year old son I am catching on to it.

These vocab words though...arghhhhh..I can't even pronounce half of them. I do okay with them if they are in a sentence form but trying to find the opposite meaning when it only gives me the word has been very challenging. :uhoh3:

It has been a few years since i took algebra and i studied for 2 wkes and finally figured it out . I took the NET on computer here and I passed the math but failed the reading. The reading consist of just basic reading comprehension. I figured what the heck reading was easy. Boy was I ever wrong. If its been a while since you have had anything my advice study all.:nuke:

I have never heard of that specific test. But the entrance test I took was not too difficult, although I did have to brush up on basic algebra---- I hate math. Thankfully my DH is a mathlete and he helped me with the basics. I would have done better had I brushed up on fractions, so I would recommend that. I actually did better in the math than the reading part, as there is a critical thinking part that didn't make much sense- any of the answers seemed to fit. So I would brush up on that too..... The whole thing was not difficult- just hard because I hadn't done any of that stuff in like 18 years since highschool!!!

Sorry for the rambling, hope that helps.

Thank you for the advice.

I have gotten pretty good at fractions. As a matter of fact..I have been studying them so much that I see them when I close my eyes.

I am trying to do alot of the reading comprhension pre tests but I am running into a problem that 2 answers seem to fit in my mind.

I guess I will find out on Monday. What is there to study for the critical thinking part of the exam? There is no critical thinking part to my review guides.
