I have heard many unpleasant stories about clinicals. I have had 2 clinical experiences so far. The truth is that you can get what you want out of clinicals and clinicals are what you make it.

First experience was not that great. Second experience with the same ci, so that means the same person right?, the same experience as the first right? Not with me, I am becoming more forward and starting to take the initiative. It is my experience, my license etc.

I noticed that things were not being done by the book....checking the meds to be exact. I had to take the initiative because an error here could cause me to lose my job and my license.

The secret to a beneficial clinical experience IMHO is to take the initiative and do everything you can so that you are prepped for your first work experience as an LPN.

Im sharing this because again, I have heard so many negative experiences that might very well be true.. but it is up to you, you need to learn ...so do all you can while in this environment.

In the real working world there's not enough time, staff, or resources to do things by the book. Every facility where I have been employed has been understocked and understaffed. When you start working you will need to make some enormously difficult choices.....

thank you. I figure as much. But one thing I hope to never falter on in that regard is the meds.
