Can you take pre-reqs while in LPN program

Nursing Students LPN/LVN Students

Hello to all, i am a aspiring nursing student. I was wondering in everyones experience is the LPN training program so rigorous that you cannot take extra classes outside of the LPN program and still have time to work. I am taking my first 2 years of pre-reqs at my local community college, so that i can transfer them to a major university. But I would also like to take the LPN course offered, so i could have a better job while i am in nursing school. I am currently awaiting my CNA boards test in september. But I also have a child and he is growing everyday, so i have responsibilities.( I need money) and CNA job wont pay what i feel he and I will need. Im 18 and need solid advice:banghead:

Also, I'll probably be taking A&PII in the spring or summer while I'm finishing up my LPN because I need it for the bridging program and I want to go straight into it. Again, it's not ideal, but you do what you have to do, kwim?

wow your LPN prog doesnt require A&PI and II? I thought that was the standard class line up. What classes does your program consist of?

Specializes in Family Nurse Practitioner.
I might do this 3rd semester of LPN school, only because I only need 1-2 classes in order to apply to an LPN to RN bridge program (well those couple classes plus my LPN cert), but I'm not doing it first semester for sure and I'm going to see how I'm doing/feeling when the time comes. If I was you I would just play it by ear. If I had nothing going on on Fridays and could take a Friday morning class for instance, I might, but i would not want to stretch myself too thin and end up getting a low grade in something. If you're planning on going "all the way" then your GPA is really going to matter, so better to spend your time trying to get an A in everything than getting Bs/Cs and getting pre-reqs done early.

I would check into this because for my LPN to RN bridge program they really didn't look to hard at my pre-req grades and for my BSN program they only wanted a 3.0 so nothing like the pressure for a 4.0 to get into LPN or ADN school initially. Not saying you should set yourself up for a C but if you think you can get a B that might be good enough so rather than postpone taking the class I would check into it. :)

sorry I should have been more specific :) I meant Masters/Doctorate type stuff when I said "all the way". For me personally, I would really like to try for my CRNA once I get that far and if my grades are not stellar all the way up that just not going to happen. I'm sure there are a lot of varying degree types that don't have a super strict GPA requirement, but I would rather get a 4.0 and not need it than get a 3.0 and find myself ineligible for something I was interested in down the road. Thats all I meant.

FWIW my LPN only required that you pass the PAX w/ an 80 or better, but then I'm in a podunk town and its a brand new program so the waiting list is not a concern yet.

My program includes A&P so it's not a requirement, but I've taken both I and II, but it's been so long, I'm retaking II (I started my nursing degree 12yrs ago, and then switched majors).

ah ok. yeah mine is taken concurrent with the nursing courses as well for my LPN. I thought you meant it did not need to be taken at all.
