Associates Degree in Vocational Nursing?

The school I am going to offers an LVN program in which you can achieve a Certification or an Assoicaites Degree in Vocational Nursing.

What would be the better choice?

With either the certificate or associates degree you will be able to take the NCLEX -PN exam.

I plan on continuing and doing an RN bridge program afterwards so I just wanted to know what is a better choice the certificate or the Assoicates degree in vocational nursing??

don't waste your time with this plan as it is likely that neither will let you do the bridge program without extra course work anyway. take an associate's degree in nursing that lets you sit for the rn nclex and be done with it.:twocents:

and many associate's rn programs have exit options before the second year that allows you to sit for the lpn, if you really feel like you want it.

There is no such thing as Associate degree in vocational nursing. Vocational nursing is not a degree, period. What might happen is you get an Associates degree in an area close to nursing along with Vocational nursing certificate.

I would suggest don't waste time with any of these if your ultimate goal is to get you RN degree. I would just go for an Associates degree in nursing which is RN.

Thats what I was confused about also because I thought you can only get a certificate in Vocational Nursing. And also I thought you have to become an LVN first in order to do become and RN????????

The better choice is to get the associates degree in vocational nursing. It adds to the education area of your resume.

No, not at all.

No no. You don't have to become a LVN first to be a RN. Some people choose to be LVN first; but it is not a requirement for RN. You can pick either one and be either LVN or RN.

The only thing about going straight into the RN is there are waiting lists at the colleges in my area to get into the program.

Then don't consider it. Don't waste your time. However, most people apply to all nursing programs near their home and then pick the program that is best from those that accept them.

Right. Go for Associates in Nursing which is 4 semester long that makes you able to sit for NCLEX-RN. The other one won't let you sit for NCLEX-RN but -PN.
