Acceptance letter!

Nursing Students LPN/LVN Students

I just received my second acceptance letter confirming when orientation starts, what books I will need to purchase for phase I of the program and what assignments are due already! So far I have to buy 12 books, and this is just for phase I. I have a chapter due with the workbook assignment along with it, due for the orientation days in July. I am starting to see the work load I am going to be dealing with in the future and it is making me very nervous. I start school September 3, 2009. It is M-F 7:30-2:30. I work two part time jobs, one I waitress and the other I work customer service in retail. Should I try keeping both jobs come the fall and work at least 4 times a week or ditch the one that pays less? Also how much studying should I be looking forward to (2-3 hours a day)? I just cannot wait to start and finally get into a career I want to do instead of these terrible part time jobs. Summer is going to go by so slow! Also I am in the process of getting a loan right now. Since I am only 19, and just am establishing my credit I am waiting to hear back about the loan. I am so nervous about not being able to afford books, uniforms, supplies, and tuition if I don't get the loan. Can you tell I am stressing? Please I need all of the advice I can get that will help me through those short eleven months! Thanks!

I just finished my orientation for the LPN program for ivy tech. I start clinicals Aug 24!!! I am really nervous!!! If anyone has any insight on what to expect during the clinicals, please fill me in!!! My plans are to finish the LPN program and then transition into the RN program, if anyone has any information about making the switch I would greatly appericate it!!! Congrats to everyone that gets into a nursing program because I know how hard and stressful it is!! I have been attending ivy tech since June of 2007 and I just now got accepted to the nursing program!!!:hpygrp:

bmm08, I wish I had some insight about clinicals. I start sept 3rd, then 16 weeks from there we start clinical. I cannot wait to get the heavy book work over with, and start the hands on learning! Good luck! Let me know how it goes, although it's over a month away that time will fly by so quickly! I just finished orientation today and we have 3 quizes assigned for the first day, and a test assigned the following week we come back. I have a feeling it's going to be quizes every day, 3 tests a week. I am envious of anyone who has graduated lpn or is about to!

Thanks for the reply!!! I am so ready for the hands on stuff too!! I think we have to go to classes the first 5 weeks and then we get to start our clinicals. We are going to start in a nursing home, I think! Well I hope everything goes well for you!! I also envy anyone who already has graduated or is about to!! This seems like it will be a tough road to head down, but I know it will be well worth it in the end! Good luck!!!!

Thanks!!! I apperciate that!!!!

I would love to start clinicals 5 weeks in. Maybe they will allow us to start early. Does your school allow you to test for your CNA after a certain amount of time? Ours does and since my current job is no where near the medical field I am hoping I can become a CNA to give me some sort of experience in a nursing home, or somewhere. I hear no one is hiring without expierence which is really difficult for new grads. We are required community service hours while in school so hopefully that plus the clinicals plus the CNA will help me find a job!

hi! congrats!! i got my acceptance letter in may and i start classes aug.17. i was just as nervous as you were when you went to orientation. i was all dressed up and had a notebook ready to write everything the instructor said. it went well and there were the students that were fininshing the program up telling us how the program went and what to expect and how to prepare for tests and what to study. we got our class schedule for phase i and the books we need. i went on amazon and ordered mine they were very inexpensive and i saved over $300 versus going to the school's book store. again congrats and i can't wait to start.

ldybttfly_nrse , sounds like we have had almost the same experience! what school are you attending? i cannot wait for summer to be over just so i can start class. i had talked to a few students who were about to graduate and they just looked exhausted and ready for it to be over with. the only advice that they really gave me was put your life on hold and focus on school and only school. i hope i can stick it out, it's only 11 months so i know i can. the drop out rate during the first 16 months is huge so that is what is scarying me more than anything.

I know this thread is from the last summer but I was just wondering how it all went. if you ever got that loan and how the program was. Im applying to Monmouth Vocational school for LPN for this upcoming september and Im most worried about paying for the program.
