I just received my second acceptance letter confirming when orientation starts, what books I will need to purchase for phase I of the program and what assignments are due already! So far I have to buy 12 books, and this is just for phase I. I have a chapter due with the workbook assignment along with it, due for the orientation days in July. I am starting to see the work load I am going to be dealing with in the future and it is making me very nervous. I start school September 3, 2009. It is M-F 7:30-2:30. I work two part time jobs, one I waitress and the other I work customer service in retail. Should I try keeping both jobs come the fall and work at least 4 times a week or ditch the one that pays less? Also how much studying should I be looking forward to (2-3 hours a day)? I just cannot wait to start and finally get into a career I want to do instead of these terrible part time jobs. Summer is going to go by so slow! Also I am in the process of getting a loan right now. Since I am only 19, and just am establishing my credit I am waiting to hear back about the loan. I am so nervous about not being able to afford books, uniforms, supplies, and tuition if I don't get the loan. Can you tell I am stressing? Please I need all of the advice I can get that will help me through those short eleven months! Thanks!

Just wanted to say congrats to you! Have you filled out a FAFSA yet?
Thanks! I filled out my fafsa a while ago. I'm pretty sure I am getting around 1500 but my school is about 8,000 including everything.

Congrats on being accepted to your nursing program! To save some $$$, you might want to see if any of your books are available on Amazon.com in "used" condition (make sure you get the correct edition#).
Theoretically, if you want to do really really well, plan on studying for 2-3 hours per hour of class. That's not likely to happen, so if you could put in 2-3 hours/day of studying, you'll probably do just fine. Play it by ear - some subjects are easier to pick up & retain than others.
In terms of which job to keep, you might also consider which job gives you the most flexibility to change your work schedule. Starting out, you say that you'll be in class 7:30AM - 2:30PM. Depending on how your program handles clinicals, they may interfere with your work schedule. You'll need to try & figure out ahead of time how you'd handle things if your clinicals were 8AM - 6PM during the week, or nights (7PM - 7AM), or on weekends. Just in case.
I just purchases all of my books on b&n. Mostly all used, for really cheap. I tried amazon but they didn't have everything I needed and a lot of the used books had "highlighting and writing" in them with no cd's, which I did not want. I am probably going to keep my retail job, they are more flexible with my hours and I can study there. I started my first homework assignment, basically everything I already know from A&P. Hopefully the rest is just as easy

Congrats on starting school in August! I am attending Monmouth County Vocational School in NJ. I started a few pre-reqs for my bridge program also. I have one semester in, but all of the classes I have taken probably won't really prepare for this LPN program. Good luck with everything! Just study, study, study and stay focused. Also everyone tells me don't stop at LPN, keep going to school while everything is fresh in your head. If you need any support I will be going to school the same times as you so we can help eachother! Good luck!
ok i will keep in touch,im planning on going straight to rn from lvn but you never know what life may throw at you so im hoping thats the way it goes. good luck

I am also planning lpn to rn hopefully everything works out as planned. I can't wait for orientation!
So orientation is tomorrow and Thursday at 8am. I know it is just orientation but I am so nervous, I have no idea what to expect. We had a homework assignment due for tomorrow which I have already completed and I will reread everything again tonight before I go to bed. I hope I don't get lost, I am expecting more homework, and just a lot of papers to fill out. Wish me luck! I probably won't be able to sleep tonight!

Thank you! Orientation wasn't so bad today. My two teachers are super nice, and seem willing to help no matter what. We learned our first lesson for A&P and Med Term. I wish I actually started in July, sept seems so far away! Thank you though! Good luck to you too!
