Refresher course?

Nurses LPN/LVN

Published

I reactivated my Iowa nursing license after 20 years. I'm in FL now and thought it was mandatory to take a remedial course. They said no and licensed me. Are there any good texts on nursing skills and procedures that I can get to brush up on current things? I had to reactivity Iowa to start this process.

Hi JPMSJEM! I was in a similar situation when I reactivated my license after a lapse of time. I looked for refresher courses and found basically nothing.

The way I ended up approaching it was to start applying for jobs, and then do specialty-specific research. I ended up taking a job doing private duty with vent-dependent patients, and found an abundance of pertinent information online.

Not sure if you have any preference yet as to where you may be working, but hopefully you'll end up somewhere they don't throw you to the wolves without enough orientation or a good preceptor.

I was pretty anxious about returning, but it turned out I remembered much more than I thought I did.

Wishing you the best as you return to the nursing fold.
