ooohh still on orientation on the dementia unit but they gave me atleast 20 pts to pass meds to... ugh I took 2.5hrs the nurse told me I did good but I feel like I was sooo slow... HELLPP!!

It's going to take time & repetition to improve. Don't rush & take your time during orientation. =0)

I agree with pinknurse. I started as a CNA and now I'm the med nurse and have been doing it since feburary of this year. The good thing is that you already know the patients which is good and you can use that to your advantage. It'll take time and repitition but you'll get it and you'll get faster =] trust me!

You do get faster with experience. The most important thing is for you to be a safe med passer. Take your time, honey. Ask yourself the question-- why was this med prescribed? Know what it's for and know how to explain it's purpose in layman terms to your pt. :-)

I was very slow at first too. You will get better as you know the meds better for

each patient, but don't rely on your memory. Some patients get new meds

every day.

It's better to be safe than sorry. Just make sure you remember the 7 rights;

right client

right med

right dose

right time

right route

right reason

right documentation
