Nurses LPN/LVN

What are the differences between an LPN and a LVN? Are they the same.

The only difference is what part of the country you are from. Up north the are referred to as licensed practical nurses. South=licensed vocational nurses

Thanks, just curious.

I live in the south and just completed as LPN, so not sure why the difference.

California also uses the title of LVN. There is no disctinction between them, you both write the same NCLEX-PN exam for licensure.

In California and Texas, basic nurses are known as LVNs (licensed vocational nurses).

In the other 48 U.S. states, basic nurses are called LPNs (licensed practical nurses).

It is definitely not true that Southern nurses are called LVNs while Northern nurses are called LPNs. California and Texas are the only 2 states that refer to their basic nurses as LVNs.
