LPNs in Jails?

Nurses LPN/LVN

Hey guys I have an offer for a jail job through a staffing company and I was wondering does anyone have an experience to share about it? I'm currently in LTC and want something else field wise. Thanks!

I would never work in a jail. My friend who is an LPN was just hired on in a county jail & loves it. However, another friend of mine teaches GED classes in a local prison & warned me against it. She knew of an LPN that was hit in the head & sexually assaulted at a nearby prison when the guards weren't around. After she told me that, I vowed to never work in a prison or jail as an LPN.

I've had adults throw bedpan full of feces, detox patient threaten me with broken glass IV bottle (70's) and enough smelly stage 4 + fumigating tumor wounds in hospitals and home care, car broken into at patients Philadelphia home...along with purse and car battery stollen while at work in upper class suburban office park. Preparation, boundary setting and knowing how to "marshall the troup's"during emergency, in any setting is important. Visit AN's Correctional Nursing forum for scoop on this specialty.
