Just Venting

hi everyone,

i hope you don't mind a vent. i'm so frustrated at my employer i wished i could just quit! i have been running a fever since saturday. i couldn't go to the doctor because i'm broke r/t my employer not paying me the pto hours that i had requested on my check in january when i was ill with the same stuff. i had bronchitis and uri.

so i had called in tuesday because i had a temp of 101.9. then wednesday (yesterday) my temp had gone down to 98.5, so i had talked to my boss and told her that if it stayed down i would be in, but if it didn't i wouldn't be in. anyway, my temp was back up to 99.7, i know not that high, but i felt miserable.

my boss says to me " i hate to say this but it seem you are ill more often than not".:angryfire i had tried to get my sister to work for me but she had to work at her job that night. there was no one else to work, so i told my boss that i would come in at 2200, because i didn't think i would be able to handle the first part of the shift. she said okay.

well, this morning my sister stopped at the home and asked me if my boss called me back and if she told me to come to work and take my temp. she never did say that to me, and my sister said that she told her she was going to tell me to come in so they could take it. :angryfire that just really p****d me off. i'm tempted to give her a peice of my mind on that. i could see it if i wasn't really sick but i am.

i realize that i missed a lot of shifts in january, 3 to anxiety issues that were very bad and two to the uri (which i had a doctors excuse for both accounts) and this one day this month and 5 hours last night. i told my sister if that is how she(boss) feels then maybe i should go work somewhere else. you could tell by just looking at me i didn't feel well.

the way i feel about it is that they don't care if you have a fever, they just want you at work. to me this is wrong, why be there and spread it to the residents. i told that to my boss too.

to top it all off last night was a night from h*ll, lol. so that didn't make it much better. i have to work 13 hours tonight and i hope i can survive it. i had one of the med aides tell me that i look totally drained and she could tell i wasn't feeling well. but they expect me to be there anyway.

so thats it in a nutshell, i don't know if i will feel better after venting about this or not, but i needed to. i will close for now, i'm sure this is long enough. lol.

have a great day! i'm off to bed now, so i can get up and go to work. i pray its a better night than last night was! thanks for listening. :nuke:

my boss says to me " i hate to say this but it seem you are ill more often than not".
hi, there! i hope you are feeling better, and can recuperate from your illness very soon. it seems as if you've had a rough run for your money in recent weeks.

more likely than not, your boss became annoyed at you for all of the call-offs. they really have no concern as to why you're calling in sick. rather, their main concern is keeping the place continually staffed with warm bodies. if you call in sick for whatever reason, it simply makes the job of your boss harder, because (s)he must now scramble to find another warm body to fill your shift. to be quite blunt with you, they typically do not like working with nurses who call in sick frequently, regardless of whether you were legitimately sick, because it simply creates more work for them when they must fill the resulting staffing hole.

truthfully, the harsh reality is that your boss is less concerned with your health condition, and substantially more concerned with keeping the place staffed. some unscrupulous bosses ideally prefer workers who will straggle into work sick, even if patients might contract your illness.

i have to agree with you about them just wanting a warm body. i think thats how most places are. i'm still trying to beat this bug, its getting better slowly. i had to laugh when i went to work last night because they have a sign on the door to visitors stating that if they have a cold, sore throat or flu symptoms to delay their visit until they feel better. yet they want the employess to come to work sick. lol!!! makes sense doesn't it. :lol2: go figure.

I'm glad you're feeling better!
