How long...LPN-RN

Nurses LPN/LVN

How long will it take for an LPN to become an RN. How many more classes are needed to become an RN and BSN? Specify courses. Thanks.

Here in CA, it is taking way too long. There are lots of pre-requisites, and if your science courses are more that 7 years old, you have to re-take them.

I have been an LVN for ten years, and last semester, I decided to go back for my RN. Since I am working part-time and a Mom, I am going part time. Last semester I took Nutrition and Speech (Both required pre-reqs). This semester, I am taking pre-algebra and Anatomy. Both have labs, so it is really like 4 classes. I still have to take Algebra, Chemistry, Physiology, and Microbiology. Then I can get into the core nursing classes. The RN program is 6 semesters. Since I am an LVN, I can skip the first two semesters, so it will take me 4 semesters, or two years for the core nursing classes. All together with the pre-requisites, it will take 4 years to get a 2 year degree. Oh well, at least RNs are paid well here in California.

Oh, and of course, there are more applicants than spaces available for the nursing program, so I have to get all A's to get in.

About how much do LPN's make an/hour in CA. Rather than getting the RN, isn't it better to do BSN since it only takes two years as well? I have taken all my prerequisites and have an AA degree. Does it seem dumb that I'm trying to get an LPN instead of a BSN since it's only two years for me. I've applied to several BSN programs, but it is very competitive. My A&P 1&2 classes screwed me up, so I'm planning on taking them again, the rest of my grades are A's, but I really mest up on the most important courses. My friends have gotten into great universities with GPA's of 3.0 & 3.2, of coorifice they both have A's in A&P courses. I even took the TEAS test and got 100% in A&P section and Physics as well, but the school did not acknowledge that. Made me sad and mad. Thanks, NurseMelanie.

California LVNs earn $15 to $24 hourly. Hospitals and clinics pay between $15 and $17, whereas nursing homes and other long-term care facilities pay $18 to $22. The penitentiaries pay up to $24 hourly.

I recently completed an LVN program and became licensed; however, it will take several years before I will be able to complete any RN program. I have no prerequisite classes completed whatsoever. First of all, I'll need to complete the required prerequisites and then apply, hoping I'll be accepted. Since I attended a non-accredited vocational school, my clock hours will not transfer as credits to an RN program.

At the time were there any other accredited technical schools or did you not think about it and is it competitive where you live. Do you regret it? Thank you for the info! Also, what is penitentiaries.

You don't know what a penitentiary is? It's a prison!

When I enrolled, my school was the only vocational nursing school in California with NLN accreditation. However, they lost the accreditation after I had been attending the school for 6 months. I don't regret my decision because all of the other technical schools were not accredited anyway.

My intensions were not to offend you. I was curious, that's all. No I did not know. I never had anyone I know in prison, so maybe thats why. Never even talk about it.

Perhaps I know these things because about two-thirds of my extended family members have been to jail and/or prison. :uhoh21:

I'm sorry, I didn't mean anything by it. I really never heard of it. I learned something new.:rotfl:
