HELP! I need an RN Nursing Mentor for me (LPN)

Nurses LPN/LVN

Published

Hi there. I am a 2011 LPN graduate and have experience in a nursing home and 6 months in pain management. I recently started in an Urgent Care Walk In Clinic and am the LPN on my shift. I have a few questions at times and not sure about my abilities of being a good nurse. I think I am an excellent nurse, but the PA told my boss that me and the tech didn't know what we are doing. This PA has never been a nurse and is very quick to judge and give instructions, including that of not looking into a patients chart before saying we should be doing this or that. I need an RN that has been an LPN to talk to, discuss things that have happened and know how to handle particular situations. Working here has not only opened my eyes to a lot of things I do not know, but I have learned so much. I love it there because I am learning. We don't get to sit down and take a break or lunch usually, in fact, I work 12 hour shifts and at times we don't even take lunch. I am not real sure if I can continue doing this, there just isn't enough time to do this when we have a lobby full of people and the PA is persistant on us getting patients back to rooms. So I really want to have a responsible, dependable, trustworthy RN to help me and talk to me when I feel my inner self telling me, am I doing this right, what did I do wrong today, or how to handle a PA that never has been a nurse and just keeps saying things like, you are too slow, you were in that room a long time I didn't think you would ever come out...those words hurt and are manipulative towards me the nurse and the patients care!!!

Help please....

Thank you so much. I need this more than ever. On my way out the door now for work, but have a quicky., how to handle our urgent care being so busy, we don't eat, we don't sit, we don't break and our PA keeps saying we need to get more patients back when we are doing all we can just to keep up.....??? any advice on this, my husband is worried I'm going to get sick from going going going....what to do and how to handle a PA that is rude, walks in rooms without knocking, only does things to help her out, not as a team? I am really pulling my hair out with this at times....

thank you

Tis the season! :tree: LOL

I have not been an LPN....however someone being rude is being rude. Unfortunately....the PA's parents should have taught him/her manners. The PA wants patients back becasue it means more money for them. Patients = billable hours.

Any urgent care/emergency care area are usually very busy. How big is the urgent care? How may rooms? How many staff members to the section? Is there an RN? How ARE YOU STAFFED?

I'd be happy to help in any way that I can. Your post actually reminded me of myself--it sounds like we might have quite a bit in common! I graduated in 1997 as an lpn and worked in nursing homes and for a pain clinic (among a couple other jobs). I went back to RN school and after graduating went to work for an urgent care clinic (with quite a few difficult personalities!). I now work in an ER, but I think I've been where u are now--still a little insecure, not quite sure where u fit into your workplace n what ur responsibilities and priorities are exactly, and how to deal with overly critical coworkers...

Are you me, lol? I really think I am a good nurse, I just can't be in 2 places at the same time right? lol...I so try to be fast in my job, ask the right questions, but no matter what I think and believe, something is always said. If I don't do a flu screen, then Is am told to do it, if I do one, then I am told it did not need to be done, I just feel like nothing I do is right and its very frustrating. I'm sad that I deal with this, but I am here for the patients. I feel that this person is not giving much time in the rooms because they are always like lets go...lets go....I am smart, and I know what i am doing, but this is insane.....
