CNA wanting to challenge LVN exam?

Nurses LPN/LVN

I Am a cna and I want to take the challenge test to become an lvn . So how would I go about doing the medical/ surgical nursing and the maternity and genitourinary

I did not realize there was such a process. My suggestion would be to complete an LPN /LVN program. Prior to being a nurse I was a CNA. I have the most respect for CNAs but as a CNA there is a lot of knowledge that you do not have. Good luck.

California I assume? You need to take a close look at the website link that describes this process in detail. In short, you would need the required amount of paid work experience in those areas to qualify.

CNAs and military medics with a specific mix of experience are permitted to challenge the board to become LVNs in the state of California.

You need 54 months of paid inpatient acute care experience plus an approved pharmacology course to challenge the board in California. 54 months is approximately 4.5 years, meaning it would be quicker if you just attended a 12 month (1 year) VN program. If you still want to challenge the board, you get your med/surg and other experiences by working in those areas as a CNA or tech.
