Central FLORIDA Lpn....?s

Nurses LPN/LVN

Published

Hi All,

For those who are actively working as a LPN in central Florida whats the average pay/hours? Are you glad you did the LPN or regret it? And why? Would you recommend someone to do LPN? And what schools did you attend and any thoughts on the school? Did you work while going to school? Do you plan to do a Bridge to RN?

Sorry for all the questions but making changes in my life and looking for info. And I since I am in central Florida and won't be leaving FL. I wanted to hear from you guys however I would enjoy hearing from all peeps.

Thanks!!

HI!! I am in North Central Florida. I live in Suwannee County but work in Gainesville. I am going to Santa Fe, completing my pre-reqs for the RN bridge program. I am VERY glad that I did my LPN because I am gaining experience as a nurse, making decent money, and moving forward in my career while I am going to school, to get my RN. I currently work at inside a gated retirement community in their LTC/rehab units. I am a new grad, licensed in June 2014. This facility started me off at $18.31/hr with full benefits that are costing me a FORTUNE out of my paycheck but whatever, at least I got benefits! I work 3-11 pm, 4 days a week, but I NEVER get out of there on time; I get out of there sometimes at 1am and then drive 1.5 hours home. I'm TOTALLY exhausted after each shift.

I would totally recommend getting an LPN license to anyone interested in nursing, just for the experience you gain in the profession. It's a nice stepping stone in your career and a REAL eye opener into the field of nursing. I know this person that wants to be an RN BUT has that "touch me not" demeaning attitude about nursing, such as "EW, I don't want to do that, so I want to be an RN. RNs don't have to clean that up or do the gross stuff". This was the response that I got when suggesting LPN school as a stepping stone to being an RN to this particular person. I am SO GLAD that I decided to be an LPN before being an RN!!
