Am I just living out someone else's dreams?

Nurses LPN/LVN

Published

Hi. I graduated from a high school nursing program in June of this year. I never really had a desire to go into nursing but my mom made me my junior year. At times I've come to like it but lately I'm just not feeling it anymore. I took the ATI twice already the first time i got a 58 the second a 64 and i have to retake it in september. I feel like I've just been sailing through the program doing what was needed to pass the test but now I feel like IDK anything that I've learned in the past two years. I'm not even sure if I want to go to college and major in nursing i want to do something else. Nursing just doesn't seem for me but I feel like I'm just doing it now because my mom got me into it and payed all that money. Can someone give me some advice? PLEASE?

I would be honest with my mom, tell her I wish to pursue other avenues and offer to pay her back... and thank her for her support so far.

I am 42 and after many years of feeling lost in my career I can only plead for you to follow YOUR dreams. If you don't you will regret it and there is nothing worse than regret. Your mom will eventually understand!

@ FaithGurl93 - are you eligible to take the NCLEX? i'm not familiar with highschool nursing program. Well if so I would highly suggest you take the NCLEX, pass it, keep the license active and then pursue your other goals. Don't knwo what you want to do? try working at various types of jobs try it out. And should your plans not work out you have nursing options. IF you really feel that you're not interested in college that too is ok just work for a few years until you feel the need or wish to go to school. Ah to be dragged through school failing subjects left and right is a waste of time an monies. The biggest motivator is yourself when you are ready and want that degree you will find the motivation, strenth and will power to do whatever it takes to get that piece of paper.

@ Inori it's in chicago called the Chicago Public Schools Practical Nursing Program. I'm gonna go to North Park university in a couple of weeks but idk what to major in yet. I either wanted to do nursing, communications, or psychology. I write and perform poetry. That is what I really love to do but my mom and alot of other people said that I couldn't make any money off of it so that's why my mom got me into the nursing.

I think follow your heart, but don't lose your brain. I don't think you could really make a living off of poetry either. But you can still do it in your free time. Pick a college program that YOU want to do. It's your life, you can't waste it pursuing someone else's dreams.

I looked up the program. I would write the NECLX, that way you can make a decent living while pursuing your dream

That's what I was thinking. Since I've been in the program I did want to work in the ER but you have to become a RN to do that. I just feel like what if I forget everything? That's my license and life down the drain
