Hi all!!

Just got my first LPN job at a nursing home/rehab center!! I start in 2 weeks :nurse: I'm excited but also very nervous

If anyone has any tips for me I would really appreciate it!!! I'm so afraid of screwing up and putting a patient in harms way....

Exactly....when in doubt....ask questions!

I just started my first LVN position 3 weeks ago at the County Jail. Far cry from Labor & Delivery...LOL! But Im loving it. Ive been in the medical field for 14 years though, so Im fairly comfortable in my surroundings.

Just remember that everyone has their own personal way of staying organized. So while your preceptor is showing you the way that works for him/her, you may find that a different way works best for you. Dont be afraid to tailor your work process to meet the needs of your patients and yourself. Good luck!

Thanks so much for the replies ladies!!! I am also a little freaked out because I am going to be a "supervisor" over the CNA's. I have two teenage daughters and that's all the "supervising" experience I have!! I know how things go in nursing homes because I have been a CNA before and I just hope that I don't run into conflict. I have a pretty strong personality and I know what I will and will not put up with as far as how the patients are treated. I just don't want to come across like a "drill sargent". I have a friend that works there also and she says that everyone is really nice so hopefully there won't be any problems....or at least very few.

I'm hoping that developing a system of passing my meds does'nt prove to be a difficult thing to do either. I think I will have 20 patients to care for which includes doing vitals and treatments on them also. The CNA's are just responsible for cares and helping with feeding.

Any advise on the "supervising" aspect would be greatly appreciated :D

Thanks again,

Good for you nothing like that first job feeling. Give it a few months and you will have a system in place.

Treat others how you would want to be treated. When supervising i think how you come across is important. Watch your tone and choose your words carefully. Show respect and help the CNAs out when you can and they will definatly return the favor.

Ask lots of questions, take a small tablet to write down a few things like door codes or whatever. Smile and good luck!
