I assume yall went to orientation already and a representative of Elsevier said the ebooks were necessary; not true. The teachers are not checking if you have the ebooks but you will need the books in on form or another to pass.

I was able to get the main actual books in for both basics and pharm for around $350. Although they might be heavy to carry around, you can flip through the pages faster and you can resell them if you need to.

For basics, you will def need the Potter & Perry (primary) & Giddens (secondary). You will rarely use Iggy. Oh, the "Fundamentals Success" is a great book to prepare for exams.

For pharm, you will def the the "Pharmacology: A Nursing Process Approach". For drug calculations, you need to know this formula:

D/H * V (D=desired, H=have, V=volume) or you can buy the "Drug Dosages" textbook.

I was able to get care plan apps and drug reference apps for free on my phone; I was also able to get the Mosby videos for free online.

As for school, read before hand, don't slack around, and develop good relationships between with your clinical instructor and classmates; you never know when you're going to need help.

Study!!! and stay ahead. When you go to orientation they're going to give you your 1st reading assignments; read them and make sure you understand them before school starts. Read all of your material before the lectures. Buy a tape recorder, and record all the lectures. When you're studying dissect every part of the chapter. Make sure you get in a study group, and discuss each chapter, ask each other questions to see how much y'all have learned. They told us to read and learn the objectives because that was what the test we're suppose to be based off, but that wasn't helpful. The test material didn't come from the objectives. The test are designed to make you think like a nurse. Always ask yourself what would the nurse do FIRST. A lot of people say it's hard, but it's really not. You have to study a lot, stay ahead, and be dedicated. Don't get discouraged if you fail a test, because you can still pass. Try to get good grades in the beginning so you can have some slack at the end of the semester for the final. Pharmacology was easy. The instructor is GREAT. There's this book from Barnes and Nobles that will help you learn the drugs. I forget the name, but I'm going to get with my friend who has it and find out the name of it. Also, get the Fundamentals of Success book it will help you learn how to answer the nursing questions. Clinicals are easy. The hardest thing is coming up with a nursing care plan. When your in clinicals try to do as much as you can, if your clinical instructor permits it. Good Luck, If I think of anything else I'll let you know.

My last question for yall..

How did you prepare for the test?? notes, reading every chapter, and drilling nclex questions??

is it a must to read every chapter?? Just trying to get an idea of how to attack early on.

I listen to the lectures on my recorder or on Tegrity about 2 times, and then I study from the chapter. YES! You have to read the chapters bcuz thats where the test questions come from. Every chapter is in to 2 parts. The first part is a refresher of a&p and symptoms of a disease. The second part is the nursing process. The nursing process is the most important part of the chapter, but you have to read the first part to understand the second part. Read the boxes and the tables in the chapter that they tell you to read too. Also, break the test question down and understand what the question is asking you.

Thank you guys so much for the pointers!! BTW I got my letter (FINALLY) from the LSBN saying I was approved to pursue my nursing career! Just interested... how many of you already have gotten that letter or are still waiting? Bc I felt like I waited forever!
