Any thoughts on Kindred Hospital?

I've been reading that kindred is a bad place to work because of understaffing and huge patient loads but all these reviews were from 2006. Does anyone know if Kindred still has a bad reputation? I am a new RN and was planning on applying for an ICU position at Kindred. I'm just worried I might regret it later due to huge patient load. I did my preceptorship in the ICU with a ratio of 2:1 at the most. Not sure if I can handle 10:1 ratio. Any advice would be much appreciated. thanks.

I got really good experience at the Texas kindred I was at... and still work PRN at. But I was lucky and got hired straight to ICU. I also found long term care is not for me. Our acuity in the unit was 1:2 or 1:3 with no tech. On the floor it was routinely 1:7 or more with techs having 12 to 15. As for management, it is profit driven so there's a lot of pressure to work harder. And every management team is different, you might hate them and you might love them but that's anywhere.

Kindred is lucky to have so many desperate new grads available...

Congrats on your first RN job!! I just applied to at least 5 positions at Kindred in San Antonio. Hopefully I get a call too. I really want to get the experience. Thanks so much for your reply:) and good luck on your new job! :nurse::)

Thank you so much. I hope you also find a job soon. It is definitely a good place to start and get to learn so much.

I was also offered a subacute PRN job at Kindred in Seattle. They said they would be giving me a 12-15:1 patient ratio. I am also a new grad but have had experience at extendicare. I won't talk about my experience at extendicare on this site, but those who have worked there or know it may understand. I will just say the reality of the interview was vastly different from the reality of working there.

I really would like the experience at this place because there are not really many sub-aute places right next to the big 3 Seattle trauma hospitals, I just am paranoid due to previous experiences. I suppose PRN day shift is different from a full-time position so it would be more manageable. I am conflicted though because I have heard mixed things about this facility in Seattle but those reviews were from a year ago. I believe this would be a good position since I want to work in ICU eventually. I am only afraid that it might be extendicare, the sequel.

Did you end up taking this position at Kindred Seattle? I have an interview tomorrow for the medsurge unit on first Hill. It sounds like relatively good experience... but my long term goal is to work in the ICU at Harborview or VM. It is hard for me to tell if this experience would set me up for that?

To those who worked at ICU, did you guys do critical care course prior to starting?

Any body works at the one in Fort-Lauderdale FL if so how is the ICU and what is the patient ratio? thanks

I'm an LVN and I got an offer from Kindred in Los Angeles. It's 12 hour shift but they're starting pay is $25 :-( currently I'm working at a Skilled Nursing Facility in post-acute and I make $ 30 an hour is it worth it? To work at Kindred

I know this is old, but did you end up taking the offer and if so was it worth it? I'm currently an LVN also and got a job offer from one of the Kindred's in Los Angeles. I wanted the position for experience, but if I take the job at Kindred I'd have to take a huge pay cut from what I make now. They said they would start me as a new grad since most of my experience is in home health.
