Subcontracting as an LNC

I have just joined this group but have read many of the posts that are here and they have been very helpful and encouraging. I am wondering how I could go about finding some subcontracting work as an LNC. I have recently completed the AALNC online course and have been working on my marketing plan but I also wondered if it was possible to do some contract work just to get my feet wet while I am waiting for my first case.

Thanks for your help.

Hello and Welcome to allnurses.com

Great having you with us.

Your AALNC organization will have an area for networking. Many receive cases by going there (if one is a member). So try that. And, if you know any LNCs in your area, you can send them an inquiry letter. Also, check out your local/state AALNC chapter.

There are other listservs that you can try, but be careful. Not all are legitimate.

Good luck and we hope you enjoy allnurses!!

Hello lazy2m, I was hoping you could tell me how you liked the training you took and how long it took you. Also did you consider the Vicki Milazo training at all? I am interested in taking a training but just now sure which way to go. I have read that one does not need formal training to start consulting, but I would not know how to start. I guess I am at the very confused stage.

Hello, Dreamer5, and Welcome to allnurses.com

Good to have you with us.

I just wanted to tell you hello.

I'm happy to see that you are interested in the career and are considering formal training. I always advise the RN to seek out training.

Good luck with your decisions. And, we hope you enjoy allnurses.com!!

Siri,

Thank you for the suggestion. I have discovered that there is not an AALNC chapter in my state and have hooked up with the group in Colorado so I will try that. And you thought about being careful with other listservs is very true so I'm glad to have some verification on what my gut told me to do.

Hi Dreamer5,

I looked at several different training courses and decided that for what I could afford the AALNC course looked the best. I was able to work with their modules and study at my own pace. It took me a while to complete since I looked at some of the information several times and also did some additional research on some of the topics. I do feel though that it was worth my time and efforts. I also purchased some of their reference books as wells as some other ones that were recommended through their website.

If I can answer any other questions about their program, just let me know.

You are welcome.

Since you do not have a chapter in your state, you can contact the AALNC about getting one up and running. They have to sanction this and will help you get it started as well as give you contact information of all LNCs (who are members of AALNC) in your state. So, you all can network......

SirI and Lazy2m,

thank you for your suggestions and information. The only attractive thing about the Millazo training is all the marketing and hype they offer and the mentoring. But I guess for the price they charge, one can do the marketing just as well. thanks. I will look into the AALNC:nurse:

Hi Dreamer5!

I also looked at Vickie M. class, but the price tag was out of my range. I am currently doing the LNC Stat home study class. They also have a marketing package that looks great. Veronica has been very helpful to me, very personable and supportive. My impression is that is the way she is in general. If you haven't looked into them, check it out as an alternative. I am doing the home study for now, and plan on doing a few days in Fla. for some 1 on 1 mentoring. Best of both worlds for me - can do the class at my own pace, review materials as needed, and save the travel costs to go be 'mentored'.

I'm happy with my experience so far! Keep researching 'til you find what works best for you!!!

p.s. - It was about 5 minutes into the training when I realized other LNC's were right - you CAN do this without training, but holy smokes, who would be silly enough to try?!!! There is a lot to absorb, and your business will not grow if you are trying to learn how to do this via the school of hard knocks without training.

Thanks for your input. I am seriously considering the AALNC because it is more affordable, but the Milazzo sounds so tempting because of all the marketing they do. I am hoping that this all pays off. I am so nervous and confused wondering if there really is a market here in orlando for LNCs. I also wonder if I have what it takes to sell myself to lawyers. I have never had any experience in marketing or sales. I understand that like 90% of this career depends on marketing. Are you confident that you will make it in this field? Do you actually know any LNCs that are successful besides the ones on this forum.?

Hi, Dreamer,

I am associated with several very successful LNCs. And, a couple are in Florida (not in your area).

I think you will enjoy the AALNC online course. Good luck!

There actually are not very many LNCs on this forum. They don't hang out here, they are on other forums.

And yes, there are more successful LNCs than you think. However, when you look at the numbers of nurses who have taken various courses - the majority that take the courses do not succeed at working as an LNC fulltime or even part time.
