I have just joined this group but have read many of the posts that are here and they have been very helpful and encouraging. I am wondering how I could go about finding some subcontracting work as an LNC. I have recently completed the AALNC online course and have been working on my marketing plan but I also wondered if it was possible to do some contract work just to get my feet wet while I am waiting for my first case.

There actually are not very many LNCs on this forum. They don't hang out here, they are on other forums.
There are many LNCs here, but the vast majority of them are just getting started in their respective careers.:wink2:
Yes, there are other listserves, but the most popular are allnurses.com and the AALNC blogs, which I highly recommend joining.
And yes, there are more successful LNCs than you think. However, when you look at the numbers of nurses who have taken various courses - the majority that take the courses do not succeed at working as an LNC fulltime or even part time.
The biggest reason most are not fulltime or even part time is they become disillusioned with the career (hear, see, read a whole lot of fanfare about making mega bucks and stay at home) or realize, after the educative fact, that marketing is really difficult, then give up.
It can be done, but it takes a lot of perseverance, patience, and, unfortunately, disappointment.

I have started marketing myself to local and other communities in my state. I am going to make my first calls this week as a follow up to the first mailing that I have done. Do you have any other suggestions to help me?? I had thought that subcontracting might be a good way to get some experience while I was working on my marketing. Thanks again for your insight and helpfulness.

Good to see that you completed the AALNC program. Congratulations.
Just stay the course. In other words, do not fail to f/u with all the mailings. And, start all over again with fresh contacts; then f/u. Do this every week.
Make some "cold calls", too. Have all of your material ready to give to an attorney should you be able to get an interview. Be professional and be sure to wear your business suit. And, have something to give to the gatekeeper when you make these calls. Include your business cards, pens or pads, candy, etc. Be sure to leave a note or packet (with note) for the attorney and that you will f/u the next week. Try to set up an interview during these calls...
You might try going to the courthouse, too. Check out the schedule of cases and sit in on one. (I secured a couple attorneys this way).
Look at the AALNC website for any info regarding sub-contracting.

Sub-contracting is normally when you work with another LNC on a case. In other words, the LNC who takes a case may need assistance and then, 'sub-contract' another LNC on the case.
