Is LNC a viable career?

Hello my friends and fellow care givers. I have questions, and could really benefit from some advice by this great group of individuals. Long story short.......I was diagnosed with metastatic prostate cancer 3 years ago (at age 46......so guys.....get your prostate checked BEFORE age 50 as is recommended). Actually, I am doing well and the growth of this inconvenient little visitor has been stopped....even reversed in some areas. Thank God for chemotherapy and my remarkable support group. I am not stating this fact for any sympathy...as I have really been blessed in life....and let's face it....we have all hugged a toliet bowl before. Anyway, I was forced to leave my 20 year and much loved career as a Flight Attendant because of the need for continued chemo and the side effects. Throughout my flying career, I always worked at my other love.....nursing. I am an RN with experience in ICU, CCU, Med-surg...and am currently involved in the hospice area. My question is......would the study of Legal Nurse Consulting be a realistic path for me to follow in my area (Arkansas)? I have always enjoyed research and have a bit of a talent for writing. I am looking for some way to work at home and remain in the medical field.....and yet the bills must still be paid....and I would like to combine these two aspects into one endevor. I have viewed the AALCN site, and noted this organization offers a package of textbooks and resources for education in the LNC field (for app. $500.00). If some of you out there could share your experience and knowledge in the realities of this area.....you help would be greatly appreciated. My best to all of you....and may I send my sincere thanks in advance. Robert

Hello, Robert,

AALNC is an excellent organization. When you complete the required course/exam, you will write LNCC (legal nurse consultant certified) after your name. The only thing about this organization that I do not agree is they do not recognize any other type of certification/registration as a legal nurse consultant. There are other types of courses you can take as well.

I took the Vickie Milazzo Inst. course. You will see the ad above some of these forums. Upon completion of this course/exam, you write CLNC (certified legal nurse consultant) after your name. Some courses you complete the requirements/exam and write RLNC(registered legal nurse consultant).

This field is not new and many are certified/registered, but, few actually practice this full time, especially creating their own business.

I have my own business and have finally incorporated this year. I have more than enough and must subcontract at times to make deadlines.

This field is a lucrative one. You must be able to have a business mind (and as I have said before in other threads, the nurse normally does NOT have a business mindset).....and market yourself to make it work. In the Milazzo course, you will learn how to go about doing this. You already have the experience....the medical/nursing experience. So, you are ready to develop the legal mindset now.

You need to do research on the many different ways to go about getting the education regarding LNC.

If you would like to pm me regarding the Milazzo course, please do not hesitate to do so.
