i am an rn with all of my 9 years of nursing experience in all areas of obstetrics: labor & delivery, newborn nursery and mother/baby care. lately, i have been giving a lot of thought to legal nurse consulting. i've been reading through most of the posts on this forum and have decided today to send away for the information for the milazzo course. i'm finishing my bsn in a few months and i'm considering doing this course after. is is difficult to do legal nurse consulting with only having the ob experience? i'd appreciate any words of wisdom you all have.

hello, qtbabynurse and welcome to the legal nursing forum

good to see that you are interested in the lnc career.

your experience as an rn should serve you well in the career. never turn down a case just because you do not have clinical experience in any one area. one can apply soc/sop to any type of nursing area with research application and/or sub-contract with other lncs if one is ever uncomfortable with the issues of the case.

i think you will enjoy the milazzo program. very informative. also, check out the aalnc online program as long as you are still researching different avenues of education.

good luck with all of your decisions and if i can be of any assistance, please do not hesitate to contact me and/or post here.

siri....to do the other course that you mentioned, don't you have to already have 2000 hours of consulting under your belt? how do you get that without having any education in the specialty?

No, you need no experience as LNC to take the AALNC online course. That's the whole idea.......to be educated as LNC.

Here is the sticky thread about AALNC and Milazzo courses:

Now, to be certified by AALNC, you must meet the requirements which include the minumum 2000 hours actually working as an LNC.
