Any students at KCTCS Bluegrass (Lexington) campus?

I'm getting ready to start the ADN program in 2 weeks and I'm looking for folks who are either in the program now or recent grads who can give me some advice.

Feel free to PM me.

Bryan

I'm at Gateway KCTCS (Northern Ky) and love it so far. We're not all that far apart distance-wise so let me know how you like it and whatever else you want to chat about. Lemme tell ya, seeing you on here is a good sign lol. This site is just invaluable for all the help you can get on just about every topic

I'm a student at BCTCS, just aren't taking any classes this Fall 2008 semester. I took an HVAC and Circuits I/II classes last Spring 2008 semester, and decided electricity wasn't for me (especially after a capacitor zapped me). I already have an IT degree (2 year) and it's a worthless piece of paper. Basically, I keep coming back to the idea of being a nurse, and though I'm scared to death that I wouldn't be able to absorb all that information, I've made the decision to move forward. I'll never know if I don't try, and I'm not getting any younger! (36, and an unemployed husband and father)

Hugs,

Aeron

My wife works at a facility in northern Kentucky, and some of her co-workers attend Gateway KCTCS. I was thinking of checking out the program. How does it compare to the program that EKU has?

I am a new grad from BCTC. I actually posted a pretty long response to someone awhile ago who was going to start this semester. I explained in detail what to expect starting school so if you want to check out that "thread" it might be helpful. The thread is titled: Bluegrass BCTC Nursing Students. Good Luck :)

my friend just finished Nursing IV this summer at the Cooper Campus and was really disappointed at the lack of organization and at a couple of the teachers.

we both completed the LPN program at the Leestown Campus and really had no complaints.

my friend is finishing out Nursing V and VI at the Leestown Campus and is hoping the instruction and the organization of the program is better there.

good luck!

It *could* be better at the Leestown campus, but not likely. I've seen enough in my one semester at the Leestown campus (in another program) to know that the school is not organized, and the teachers are not that good (with their teaching methods or in terms of their own actual experience in the respective field). I have talked to professors in at least three different programs across the Cooper and Leestown campuses, and know enough to look elsewhere. Good luck, though. You don't have much further to go, right? If you are considering transferring, I bet you wouldn't have any problems, though you might have to take additional courses just to get the degree from a different institution.

Oops, I misspoke. My friend is finishing out the RN nursing courses, NUR V & VI at the

Lawrenceburg campus, not the Leestown one, as they only have the LPN program there, which we finished.

She's hoping the Lawrenceburg campus is better organized and the instructors are better there.

I'm torn between staying on at BCTCS to finish out NUR IV, V & VI and being done with the RN program, or transferring to EKU.

My major consideration is that Im a new-ish single mom and need to be done as quickly and cheaply as possible, so I'll probably stay put at BCTCS.

It is entirely up to you, of course, but I'd think a BSN would be much for your career in the long term, and I AM WILLING TO BET that you would have more credibility by graduating from the nursing program at EKU than you would at any community college. I realize you're a single mother and you want to get done with school ASAP. I'm just not minding my own business, and looking out for ya. :p

Specializes in LTC.

I am a BCTC student. I am hoping to get into the program next fall. I got an 86th percentile, so we will see what happens.

Good luck to all.
