CNA ready for work

U.S.A. Kentucky

Merry Christmas everybody!

Just got the great news that I passed my state exam and I'm now a CNA or is it SRNA? Anyway I passed and I'm so excited I don't know what to do. That's the bad news, I have no idea what to do next and need help. I just completed my first semester @ BCTC here in Lexington with straight A's and will be starting the first semester of the LPN program in January. I would really like to work while I'm going to school but I don't know where to apply. A few friends have suggested applying for UK's "swan" program but I can't find a listing for it on their website. My dream job would be at the VA hospital but I don't imagine they have much use for CNAs. I'm not afraid of working at a nursing home and I'm not the least bit afraid of hard work. Any suggestions would be most sincerely appreciated.

God bless and have a very Merry Christmas.

maybe try a hospital

The VA told me they weren't hiring CNAs right now. That was about 3 weeks ago. I know they have some sort of RN student tech program, I don't know about LPNs though.

It takes FOREVER to get hired at UK unless you know someone. I'm not sure about St. Joseph or Central Baptist.

I work at Eastern State Hospital as a mental health associate (basically a nurse aide). They pay better than a nursing home and they seem to always have trouble staffing their "medically high risk" floor, basically geropsych. They seem to like hiring provisional employees (only have to work 30 hours per month), so it's very flexible. I guess it's worth thinking about if the place doesn't scare you, lol.

Hi! If you live near Lexington, I'd check into Thomson-Hood Veteran center. It's a nursing home for veterans in Wilmore, KY. They are always looking for SRNAs, they love to promote (for when you get your lpn). It is VERY hard to get into UK. My mother is a nurse there and she couldn't even help me get hired there. I'm thinking of trying to get my lpn at BCTC. How do you like it?
