Hi everyone,

Congrats on your acceptance. I also was accepted and I am excited and very anxious. Does anyone know what books we will use for NR115? The online bookstore doesn't list any books. Are there any 40 somethings that want to hook up for study group and support?

I am the mother of 3 special needs children and I have worked so hard to get accepted. I am going to show my girls that hard work, perseverance and faith make all things possible.

This is a "fixing to be a 2nd year" BCTC (Cooper) student... GET YOUR PHARMACOLOGY DONE OVER THE SUMMER!!! Tests are all online (aka OPEN BOOK!).

Ditto to this, I did do summer pharmacology and it is was a lifesaver. BCTC has been a better experience then I expected and I love my classmates.

I am a now second year BCTC student as well, feel free to ask away. The books required the first semester are a bundle, but you may or may not use everything. I bought the bundle for Fundamentals because of the online access codes, but honestly would have managed fine without the books. I also feel that the Skyscape Iphone software is helpful but not essential. You can use free programs like Epocrates and get almost the same information.

I wound up buying older editions of the texts for the spring and managed just fine. I honestly find better resources using Google and making my own outlines from the lecture material. But it depends on how you study.

I have loved my time at BCTC, our class is very organized and close-knit and have always helped each other. We have a huge pool of study materials such as outlines and study guides. I am tempted to organize them and sell them to the first year students as a fundraiser for our pinning ceremony.

These are the 2 most important books for the first semester in my opinion and are part of the bundle:

Potter and Perry Fundamentals of Nursing is an essential book:

Jarvis Pocket Physical Assessment will be useful for the first part of the semester when learning assessments:

Hi everyone,

I have heard some bad things about BCTC, it is nice to have come here and read about some positive experiences. I am planning to apply to nursing school for the fall 2012 at BCTC in Lawrenceburg, so I am slowly working my way into it. I wanted my youngest child to be 3 before I take the plunge and get so tied down. Just working through psychology and the prereqs have been hard with a job and kids, as I am sure lots of you know!

Hi all. Are there any alternates for BCTC Fall 2011 that have been accepted yet?? Trying to see where I am on the list now, and can never seem to get a hold of anyone when I call campus. Thanks!

Have you checked your mybin account? Thats how we found out last year.

Go to https://mybin.bluegrass.kctcs.edu/ and enter your KCTCS username and password. Then click on Check my selective admission file. If there is a Yes it means you are in. If there is a No means you are not accepted. If there is a number that is your alternate #. You may not find out until a week before classes and obviously that puts you at a disadvantage as many of the earlier time groups are filled (10 in each section). Hope this helps.

I was #7 on the alternate list and I did not get in until the end of June, just in time to take summer pharmacology. Many people did not find out until right as classes started for the fall.

I took my pre-reqs at BCTC main campus and had a generally great experience. Dr. Shirley Whitescarver is the best. Ever. I met the little woman who is in charge of the nursing program at Lawrenceberg. It was raining and she didn't have an umbrella so I helped her walk to her car. She was very nice and she knew that I was a nursing major, even though I'd never seen her before in my life. She said she could tell that I had a caring gene and I would make a wonderful nurse. It was probably the nicest thing anyone has said to me.

Anyway - I know of two people that were accepted into BCTC but chose to go to EKU, so that should be two spots at least that are open. Congratulations to everyone that got in. From what I've heard there are a lot of hoops to jump through and it's way more complicated than the stuff I had to do to get into EKU's ABSN.

Best of luck to everyone!
