Anyone else finding the KY New RN market impossible

I'm mean I know the Louisville area is over saturated with nursing programs with what seems like more opening soon, but sheesh. They need to stop with the nursing shortage nonsense, the only shortage is for experienced nurses not new ones. At least this has been my observation. I graduated in 2008 with my ADN and feel I wasted my time and money since finding acute care employment is impossible. There are plenty of job openings, just none giving interviews to new or in my case not so new grads.

Trying to keep my spirits up, but sheesh.

I think Lexington's job market is ok. Many people in my class already have jobs lined up post-grad.

I'm on contract with UK Hospital so I will be employed by them after I get done in nursing school. I know they are expanding and hiring a lot.

I keep applying there as well, but can't get an interview. I just don't know what to do anymore. I'm competing for jobs with more recent grads and cannot afford to take one of those RN refresher courses. I got really ticked when I read one hospitals application requirement for a new grad nurse position was for external applicants to have their BSN, but internal applicants only had to have thier ADN.....not fair at all. Granted I couldn't apply to that now if I wanted to since I'm way past 12 months post graduation, but dang.

Your best bet would be a smaller hospital in the county

Try UK... They are expanding a lot! I got an interview with them as a new grad with an ADN from out of the area. Good luck!

I've several applications with UK, nothing yet. I keep applying though, same with several other hospitals.

Keep trying at UK....last spring they told me they weren't hiring any new grads to the Children's Hospital that year, and three months later called me for an interview....they hired 7 new grads to my unit of the children's hospital alone, and that's not counting to the other units and the adult floor. Try getting in touch with the nurse recruiters, I know other people who wanted to work with adults who were able to get hired when they said they'd be willing to work at Good Samaratian instead of Chandler, but still work for UK are an eligible for internal transfer in 1 year.

Do they hire ADN grads anymore? I keep applying and I'm definately willing to work at good Samaritan. My dream would be to work at Kentucky Children's, but I know it's very hard to get into peds even though they do have openings posted (I applied to those last week). I think I will call the nurse recruiters office tomorrow and and inquire about my applications. I would even volunteer at the hospital, but the commute would not be good even though I could possibly get good connections that way. I just want an interview.

To the best of my knowledge they do hire ADNs (at least in my Unit, they hired two last summer, although they had both previously teched at UK) I would definitely call the recruiter, they are very nice when you are finally able to get in touch with someone. Good luck!

You really should call the nurse recruitment office and follow up on your application. They get 40,000+ applications a year and hire less than 1,000.

My background is HR, so my advice is to call, follow up, make yourself stand out....

I called and followed up, didn't get to talk to one of the recruiters but definately showed my interest. Several of my applications have been "referred" to the hiring managers. I just want an interview, a chance to sell myself. It's so discouraging to not even rate an interview.
