employment outlook for KS RN's

I was wondering what its been like for new grads or even experienced RN's to find employment in rural areas or KC and surrounding areas?

Looking at the johnson county area hospitals and even Olathe med..it seems that quite a few are hiring w/out the 1 yr experience in some areas other than med surg...but are they REALLY hiring..or just trying to get a pool of applicants?

Im trying to decide if it would be more beneficial for me to attend LPN school *to which im already accepted for next fall* and work in LTC and get that 1yr experience and then bridge to RN and hope to get a job afterwards w/my LPN experience...or just do my RN..the RN program Im considering does not let you test for LPN..you just go straight through.

I am curious about this as well. I keep reading about how hard it is for new grads to find jobs on these boards. I was curious if it is that bad here in Kansas too. I live in the Lawrence area and recently started nursing school at Neosho county in ottawa. If you haven't already you might check into the school. At Neosho you sit for the LPN boards after your first yr, then you automatically get to go on for you RN or second yr. That away you can gain a little experience while finishing out school. I was offered a position in Hays with 3 weeks left to go of school. They told me over 40soemthing applied and they took 12. Its pretty rough, but I know rural is always looking for help. Several of my friends just recently got hired to a few rural places as well.

I am looking into NCCC myself. Do you know if they usually have more applicants than they can accept? In other words, is there usually a waiting list?

my sister in law was just accepted to NCCC the chanute campus. There were 120 applicants if i remember right and they only took 30...but only 23 spots were open because 7 students that were accepted the previous year had to repeat so they automatically received spots.

they dont have a waiting list you either get in or you dont and you have to reapply thet following year.

yes, there is more applicants than spots. Last yr when i applied there was over 200 apps and they accept 48. It is very competitive, If you have all of your prereqs completed, and you get over an 85 on the teas test you have a pretty good chance of getting admitted if you have a good GPA. It is a very good school, they are opening there new building in a couple weeks and it is going to be state of the art. If you have any other questions just ask.
