US trained NP's in the UK

Can a nurse practioner who trained in the US usually work in the UK in the same role? Basically here you have to have a BSN and one year of experience to undertake the NP training which leads to a MSN. I do know that you would have do a prescribing course over there. And I do know that the role is somewhat more limiting.

What training does a NP in the UK usually complete.

One of my work colleagues has just completed NP at one of our local universities here is the link to what the requirements are. I am not sure if you will be able to get similar work. At the moment most NP's are in the community and I wouldn't say my work colleagues role is limiting I would think that would depend on where and who you work for.

I'm an NP and my role is similiar to that of an NP in the states- except I dont have to generate income the way an NP in the states would!

at present NP's are educated to both honours and masters level. It is looking as if we will get registration of the title and with that will probably come the requirement for the training to be at masters level. The RCN website has a document on the competencies expected of an NP. I am an extended and supplementary prescriber, I work independantly- my docs say as long as I dont kill anyone I can do what I want! I dont the think the role is more limiting here- rather it has a different focus! we have nurse led practices- I have a friend who leads a large practice- she says its her name over the door! NP's are as our leader Bev Malone said.... the lunatic fringe of nursing, at the cutting edge pushing the bounaries!! have to say calling us the lunatic fringe at the NP conference in 2002 didnt go down too well!!
