Hello there folks!!

Help!! I am in a dire situation. I just resigned from my job as a District Nurse yesterday. I was to be working in South Auckland and after one week, well after one day, I knew this was DEFINATELY not the place for me to be. Quite honestly I don't even want to be in Auckland. It's nice but as cities go, I don't think it is outstanding.

I need to get a District Nursing job here as soon as possible as my money isn't going to last much longer. Does anyone know anyone who is looking for a District Nurse (not in Auckland!!!)

Many thanks, Iona

Specializes in ICU.

Wish I could help Iona - I guess you will have to wait for one of your NZ members to post again - sorry.

Sorry to hear about your plight. Are there any Nursing Agencies you can contact? Could you become self employed and just nurse for yourself (I became unemployed four years ago and set myself up as an independent nurse - self employed). You will probably end up nursing in aged care somewhere, but at least you will get an income.

Perhaps some local nurses could help you secure some work. Here in Queensland we are very short of nurses - I'm a pom and they accepted me!

Good luck.

Mister Chris.

Hi Iona

Health Waikato looking for a district nurse in the south of the Waikato region. We are based in Hamilton a very large training hospital.

I came over here in January with my wife and 2 kids from The Isle of Man and we love it here.It takes a bit of getting used to ,but I find everyone very friendly.I have a post as clinical nurse specialist in acute psychiatry, which is a first for mental health in Hamilton.

The closing date is in 4 days time,Im sure you can get an application of the health Waikato web site.

Hamilton a small city compared to Auckland, not to every ones taste, but suits us at present.

Good luck with finding a job, there is plenty out there in NZ.

What's so bad about Auckland?

Don't know the place myself. Should I avoid it?

Auckland's okay as big cities go, and this is NZ's biggest. Myself, I don't want to live in any city! auckland has a big new hospital, that has incorporated a lot of the smaller ones from the central city area.

There'd be plenty of job opps, and theres agency nursing avail there too.
