UK to US need info on making up hours ect

Hi all,

Just discovered this amazing site!!! and like many people on here, I too want to move to the US (New York) after I graduate from Uni. I've had a good look around at some of the post's about qualifications ect and what concerns me the most is how to make up the hours for the other branches of nursing not catered for in the UK degree. I will be taking a Bsc in adult nursing, so can anyone tell me how many "hours" are needed in all the other branches to make my qualifications compatible with US standards??? and any suggestions on how I might go about getting them? I'm new to Healthcare, and can't wait to get started!!:balloons:

The hours vary slightly from BON to BON and really only cgfns makes the decision. Whlst at uni may be worth seeing if you can make the hours up with them. I trained many many moons ago :chair: and hours was 150 mental health of which 75 was theory and 75 pactical the same for mother and child (midwifery) can't remember for paeds but think that was also the same. This was enough for me and NY Unfortunately otherwise there isn't anything available in the UK to make hours up and may involve going to another country e USA to a nursing school and just doing the courses required for hours. You would have to be able to support yourself whilst doing the course and prove it to immigration

Thanks for the advice. I am going to phone up a couple of Uni's in my area today (Manchester) and see what they have to say about it!!

According to the agency "Geneva healthcare" that another user mentioned, the hours are:

Paediatrics = 20 to 40 hrs (Theory) -- 40 to 80 hrs (clinical)

Obstetrics = 20 to 40 hrs (Theory) -- 40 to 80 hrs (clinical)

Psychaitry = 20 to 40 hrs (Theory) -- 40 to 80 hrs (clinical)

Hope this helps others with the same concerns. I'm going to email the BON for New York and see what kind of response I get from them.
