Transfer from USA college to Canadian College

I am an international student at one of the American community colleges who is currently working toward the RN. I am getting very soon the Canadian Permanent Resident Visa, and I have to entry the country until 12/22/2010. Since I am in Level II, I can take Optional Summer LPN training course and would be eligible to take the NCLEX-PN Exam. Unfortunately, I have never been to Canada, and I am very concerned about what can I do in Canada in terms of my education? How can I transfer my nursing and other pre-req classes to Canadian School? By the way, I would like to live in Toronto area. May I work at hospitals as a Nurse Tech when I am studying as in the USA? I heard the living cost in Toronto pretty high?

Canadian hospitals don't employ "nurse techs". You are either a PN, RN, or employed nursing student (and this last one varies province to province)

You just have to apply to the University you want to attend and see if they recognize any of your education. Don't be surprised to find out that very little will really transfer, most likely your Arts courses will be fine.

Work is hard to come by for Canadian nurses in Ontario and several other provinces at this time. Have you read any of the threads in the Canadian forum?

You can get some idea of the cost of living in Toronto through the city website http://www.toronto.ca/immigration/cost_imm.htm

Unfortunately, it is more likley you will find work in a minimum wage job and will not be able to afford nursing school unless you have family in Toronto to help you out.

Be careful about making an impulsive decision to move to Canada, I have seen a number of hopeful people end up disappointed and in debt.

Thank you very much to you all.
