Often nurses enquire about rural and remote nursing here in Australia.

Equally as often, those of us who know, advise against it.

There have been nurses pulled out of certain Territory remote communities as well due to violence. I think in the main though many of the nurses do enjoy the experience. But governments should take much more care, respect their professionals, and provide more protection than screens - heellllooo!

It is important to have some understanding of indigenous culture BUT what that poor girl went through one can only imagine....

Oh how awful. Hope the QNU follows through with what it stated and stands by their nurses...

Hope that bloke is proud of himself, not only has he violated a young woman but he may have also ceased access to primary health care services for the people of Torres Strait.

Jay, can you enlighten me please on how having an understanding of indiginous culture has anything to do with ensuring nurses in rural and remote locations are protected and safe from the very thing which happened to this poor nurse?

I think what I was trying to say, in my own unclear and foot in mouth way, was that while we should be educated in Indigenous culture, that this is not part of it, and what happened to that girl was a disgrace.

How about responsibility towards their employees?

A simple administrative error?

And up here, workers compensation does not compensate for lost wages. It is based on a person's base rate of pay. I wonder if this is the case in Qld, and thus this girl is going to be suffering further because of 'administration'.
