Hi Guys,

I have recently received the go-ahead from the CNO to sit the exam.

I am also looking to get my temporary registration and find a job as soon as possiable so i have experience before i take the exam in October.

Is it possiable to find a RN job in the GTA with my temporary registration or would i have to work as an auxiliary and only get a RN post after i pass the exam ???

Thank you in advance :D

Hi ,..i am sure there are vacancies available in GTA area esp William osler centre,,they are recruiting currently:nurse:..You should contact the recruitment office for the process or can apply online at www,williamoslerhc.on.ca...

Also.you may choose to try your luck through agencies:typing ..Once your employment is confermed your employer neeed to fill employment offer formwhich you need to submit to college of nurses along with fee..the process will atleast take 15 working days.

You can try other health facilities also e.g. Bayshore(www.bayshore.ca),the scarborough hosp(www.tsh.to),Humber river regional hosp (www.hrrh.on.ca).

Or Just do google search for hospitals in GTA...you will get a list:uhoh3: ...based on which you can go for your job hunt.I hope would of some help to you.

Good luck:up:

Just to clarify... Canada does not have an auxilliary class of nurses. You will not be permitted to work as an RN on a temporary permit, you will be working as the equivalent of a graduate nurse. You may not use the title "RN" until such time as you are actually registered as a nurse in Canada. If you do not pass the CRNE on the first go 'round, you will no longer be permitted to be classed as a graduate nurse and will have to be employed as a nursing assistant until such time as you pass the CRNE. You only have three tries at that. If you read some of the CRNE threads here you'll find all sorts of tips on how to ensure a pass the first time.

Thanks guys :D ,

@ janfrn: if i am not working as an RN and only as a "Graduate Nurse" does that eman that i will not be able to have a full job or will i have a job and have a mentor as the CNO web-site says ??

@ mgill32: Thanks for the advice but i am looking to live more downtown as my partner will be working in a college their when we come over. What are the best places to look at downtown or somewhere close ??

What it means is that you'll be supervised by an RN for as long as you're waiting to write the first time and until the results are back and you've gotten your registration completed. You'll work to the scope of a graduate nurse, meaning there are some things you won't be permitted to do, but generally speaking, you'll be doing pretty much the whole job. The person supervising you won't necessarily be right at your side the whole time once your unit orientation is over, but will act as a resource for you and be close by. The pay is a bit less than it is for a first year RN, and most provinces have a provision for back-paying that difference once the exam results are in and the papers in your hand. They'll usually give credit for previous experience too, as long as it's adequately documented.

In our unit, graduate nurses cannot give any IV meds by the direct or push method. They cannot administer neuromuscular blockers, monitor patients receiving them, administer cytotoxic drugs, obtain CSF specimens from venticular drains, take verbal or telephone orders from physicians and a few other things that I can't quite bring to mind at the moment. Then of course there are the unit-specific assessments and interventions that require additional education for. Does that clear things up for you?

Yes that certainly does.

I am now going to be contacting hospitals furiosly to see if any will accept someone on a temp registration.

Thanks a bunch

Most hospitals in Toronto will accept your temporary registration. Everyone I know who graduated last year had NO problems getting jobs right after graduation with their temporary licences. Contact the HR departments. Pay is less, slightly restricted practice.

I just got my temp reg today...yay!! So, I can begin my new job Monday. I understand form the CNO website I must use the credentials "RN (temp)" until the results of my exam are back and I can file for registration in the general class. I am originally licensed in Michigan, and did my schooling there as well, though I have been living in Ontario for the last 22 years. I just wrte the CRNE on June 4, 2008. I understand if for some reason I do not pass, the temp reg is revoked...yikes! I hope I pass!
