So, What happens if you're a year post graduation and still NO job?

I've been reading through a few threads about this topic and the things I am hearing are making me utterly sick.

I've read threads about people saying they have been applying for 13 months... and still no job... and the responses have been along the lines of "You're going to need a miracle but it may happen"

How does one remain positive in this time? Days, months are flying by and nothing seems to be changing.

I've had my resume tweaked- I'm applying for the same jobs as other classmates... they're getting calls.

I graduated in June- and was registered in August.

But what happens when a year passes? are we automatically just out of the race? This keeps me up at all hours of the night- How is one suppose to think positive? :banghead: I am stressed out of my mind. I just keep thinking what do I do now??? :sniff:

I have my ACLS, ECG course etc etc. nothing is helping. There also aren'y any "nursing" volunteer positions in my area.

Where are you located? I think it may be a regional thing. I know our hospital hired a lot of new grads. Have you considered relocation or long commute?

I have read of people who found work after a long time by accepting offers that involved relocating. If you can not, or do not want to cast your net over a wider geographic area, it is time to consider other options. Do not wait until the wolf is at the door. Some interviewing employers can not tolerate any behavior that looks like desperation and will treat you accordingly.

As I mentioned in another post, ON is one of the worst Provinces to find work, and it won't get better any time soon. That's the reality, and that's why many of us left. There are some jobs in rural ON, but in the cities...too many applicants and few jobs. It's luck of the draw, and who you know. Keep applying, but consider relocating to rural ON or another Province. A friend of mine recently was hired as an RN. She graduated in June 2010.

From my experence, I kept praying and kept applying. I had to wait over a year also but the end I am working under my license, RN.

Try expanding your idea about nursing volunteer positions to include volunteering with RNAO, nursing specialty organizations, nursing conference planning committees and clinical research.

Homeless shelters and inner city clinics are always on the look out for volunteers.

What city are you located in? I live in Mississauga, Ontario. I was fortunate to find employment shortly after graduation close to my home so it is possible. However, one thing I do remember when I was applying is that I was mentally preparing myself to relocate if need be. So, as others have mentioned, this is something you may want to consider (if you can). Otherwise try nursing agencies. "Nurse Next Door" has recently started hiring nurses so you may want to try them. There are other agencies such as VON, Helping Hands, and Saint Elizabeth. This is all community nursing. Not sure what area you want to work in, but homecare would certainly get your foot in the door. Most of all, please do not get discouraged. Try and be as positive as you can and continue to be patient. Your hard work in school will pay off. Again, I am not sure where you are located but Brampton Civic Hospital always seems to be hiring as well as Humber Regional hospital. It's strange you do not see RPN positions. I always see them. St. Joseph always seem to be hiring. What I suggest you do is go to Workopolis and register for "career alerts". It's very simple to do. I also recommend you post your resume and a general RPN cover letter. Here are some names of GTA hospitals:

Brampton Civic (part of the William Osler Health Network)

Trillium Health Center (Mississauga)

Humber River Regional Hospital

Have you tried the Oakville hospital? Or Joseph Brandt in Burlington?
