Hello fellow nurses and nursing students,

I am an international student aiming to graduate in December, 2015 with my ADN. When I graduate I plan to apply for the OPT program. Had any of you worked with an OPT program? If yes,

where and were you able to

gain sponsorship from them after a year?

Thank you!

The issue you have is staying in the U.S. Whilst waiting for your PD to become current unless you stay at school and maintain student status

Thank you for your reply! What is a PD?

Priority date date your I140 is approved

Thank you! Now I understand it better. Well, I would be willing to have the status of student while waiting for this I140. Would I be able to work or attend school while waiting for them to approve my working visa? Would I need to leave USA at this time and come back if approved?

Also, what is important to me is hearing stories from other people how they got to be sponsored from their employees. I would like to know what states/areas is a smoother process in obtaining that status.

if maintaining student status it must be full time education so working will be limited. As a new grad working visa may be difficult to get as work visa usually requires minimum BSN or 12 years experience. The issue will be immigrant visa and your place of birth as that will have a impact on finding sponsor who would be willing to wait the x number years it takes and if you don't maintain student visa but have a sponsor you will have to leave until your PD is current. I do however strongly advise you to speak to a immigration lawyer

Thank you! What do you think would be the best I do: shall I go right away and get my BSN and do the OPT after. Or apply for OPT after my ADN and then have someone apply for my inmigrant visa (since the working visa criteria need a bachelors degree candidate).

Yeah will need to consult an immigration lawyer soon.

OPT can be used after ADN and then again after BSN as BSN is a higher level than ADN.

I'm aware of that. But was thinking since I wouldn't be able to apply for work visa after OPT with ADN, is it recommended to go for BSN before OPT?

That is up to you and that you find a full time course for BSN but no reason why not work with OPT for 12 months before BSN to save money

Thank you very much for all the answers/advice you have given me!
