nursing school while pregnant?

Hi there, I will be starting nursing school in the fall, first year and my partner and I are planning on having a child in 1-2 years. I'm just trying to mentally prepare myself for whats ahead here, my husbands job is fleixible and he can work from home.

are they understanding in clinicals?

Depends on your instructors, the facility you are in, your classmates, and you. I've seen pregnant students who never made an issue of their pregnancy and others who begged off doing any lifting, transfers, dealing with incontinence care, etc. because "I'm pregnant".

Unless you are absolutely certain of delivering when school's out, I personally wouldn't do it. I don't know how old you are but children are a gift at any age. I waited until mine were all in school before nursing school. They are only little once and the years do fly by quickly and you will miss a lot. The first sounds, steps, loss of teeth, etc. I wanted to be there and not have a daycare employee witness it.

I had one of my children during my nursing program and in a word or two it can be real hell depending on your program and instructors. Having a child is hard having one during what some may say are the hardest and most hellish times can be even harder. I did it but would I do it again, not really sure. I gave up tons in order to finish my education sometimes i think that what I lost was not worth what I gained. I am done now and I am working as a nurse. I am happy that I will have a job for as long as I can and that i will be able to give my kids the kind of life that I want them to have. I'd think real hard on your decision no matter what it will not be an easy one.

P.S. I had my child in my first year, however a lot of girls that had children in my program got prego in there last year and it was easier on them as most generally had there children once they were out of school.

maybe I'm being a bit too "type A" about planning every detail, but I just want to pick the optimum time. My partner is 13 years older than me and I'm trying to weigh out the pros and cons of waiting versus planning to try during school. He has a good job and I would't have to work, I looked at the timetable of courses for the programme, and theres a 4 month break between 2nd and 3rd year. that would be the optimal time I guess if we chose not to wait, and then I would have a few months with no school to spend with the baby. 3rd and 4th year are mostly clinical, so I could still have the rest of time for familly........

any thoughts (I know, I'm obsessive!)

thanks btw for your advice thus far, it helps.
