nursing agency contract

Hi, I would like to ask about cancelling contract with a nursing agency.

I have a california RN license, no work permit. I made a contract with an agency more than 1 year ago.

Yes, I signed for some contracts. Yet, because of this retrogression, they haven't done anything of course.

Is there anyway that I can cancel this contract without paying stupid 20,000 dollars penalty??

Now I know that's how they make money, but this contract never expires, and I am not a native English speaker, and even I feel that I am threatened that I can't work anywhere else since they have my license copy.

I got married so that I can get a work permit soon. I just want to start working in comfortable situation.

They may say that the original poster stated herself that she got married in order to get a work permit. Those were her exact words, nothing rude about any responses afterwards.

Getting back on the subject, just how do you become an independent contract nurse without signing an agency contract? I would like to do contract nursing part-time becoming involved in maternal-infant programs. Any and all suggestions are welcome.

Where are you? What sort of visa will you have/need? Which country are you looking at?

Do you mean as in coming in as a consultant for lactation or something? Is that what you mean by contract for maternal-infant? They do have programs like WIC that do have consultant nurses who do lactation. You wont find them in the hospitals as they have their staff nurses also doing lactation.

I would just like to say I have been with my this husband of mine since high school and we have a son together. I AM NOT MARRYING FOR A GREEN CARD. I am a human being so please. I am with him over 10 yrs, he is my husband whether i get a green card or not. As someone mentioned, the topic was not about my marriage and whether it is real or not it's about the contract.

I'm a naturally born legal citizen of the USA. I live in Michigan, and I have found a few agencies that are looking for nurses to work independently (contract) as a maternal/infant nurse in an attemt to reduce the infant mortality/morbidity rates in Michigan. It's called MIHP (Maternal Infant Health Program). There are many agencies that are MIHP providers (in that they get referrals from the state for women/infants who are at risk), but usually a nurse working thru that provider is an independent contractor in working in this type of nursing. You are paid a flat rate to open cases and a flat rate for revisits. You would be paying your own taxes, , etc., so you are "in business for yourself" and can claim it as such during tax time and claim everything that you use/buy in order to get your job done. When I read the initial thread about contracts, it brought to mind how this can be done without having to go thru agencies and signing contracts. I know nothing about being an entrepreneur.
