Moving to Canada - Agencies?

World International

Published

Hi guys!

I'm a registered nurse from New Zealand who has just finished a year working in a therapeutic community (mental health). Trouble is, I only had a one year contract and it is up! I'm also trained as an ambulance officer and have a lot of paediatrics experience.

I'd love to move to Victoria, BC as I know someone there.

Can anyone help me out with the websites of any nursing agencies in this area? The link bcsomething.org (I forget the exact address!) doesn't appear to be working. I especially would like a job in paeds :) which are VERY hard to get here in NZ in the area I live in.

Cheers!

Kenzie

The best website for nurses planning on coming to BC is http://www.healthmatchbc.org . They not only assist with job placement, but they will help you with lisencing info and immigration info all completely free of charge.

Hi Kenzie,

you will also need to become registered within the province of BC if you are planning on moving to Victoria. Website for CRNBC is http://www.crnbc.ca/

Recently at my hospital we tried to hire a nurse from NZ who was working in Saskatchewan...still in the works because its all tied up with a working permit, so it could take a few months. I have been told it is much easier to get a permit for out of country nurses if there is a firm job offer.

If you decide to work in a hospital in Victoria, you might have better luck with the Vancouver Island Health Authority...website http://www.viha.ca/

I live in the Lower Mainland, so can't help you more than that, but your friend in Victoria is probably your best resource. Good luck to you :wink2:

Specializes in General Ward, OR, DR, NICU.

hello fergus51...

really they will help you even ifyou havent registered for CRNE yet?

Specializes in Advanced Practice, surgery.

Moved to international, also a very old thread so much of the information may be out of date, so thread closed as there are newer and more up to date threads about nursing in Canada.
