HELP! I am a practicing labor and delivery nurse in the US. My boyfriend and i are planning on getting married and moving to Ireland. I was wondering how difficult it is to get a job there?

How do I get certified there?

Do I have to be a midwife?

How different is the labor and delivery from the US to Ireland?

I work at a level 3b NICU hospital, so we take all high risk patients and deliver babies just at viability.

Any information would be GREAT!!!

Specializes in Complex pedi to LTC/SA & now a manager.

Is an Irish passport different than a normal passport?

I don't have my midwife! Our hospital does not use them.

Would it be better to get my midwife degree in the US or Ireland?

Is a midwife in the US similar to Ireland in like what they do?

An Irish passport is a passport for the citizens that live in Ireland, I assume you mean a normal passport is an American passport

So yes, they are different. In order to work in Ireland you'd need a work visa.

Priority for work is given to Irish citizens then EU citizens per EU directive. What is a "normal passport? Irish citizens get Irish passports. US citizens get US passports. On what visa are you moving to Ireland?

You need to review the midwifery requirements for Ireland in the links I posted. The training is specialized and requires significantly more clinical hours than US. UK & Irish nurses are adult, pediatric, psychiatric, or intellectual (developmental) disabilities. Then there are midwives. Priority for education is given to citizens and the cost for an international student is expensive.

There are no OB or L&D nurses. All prenatal and obstetrical care is provided by midwives with physician support. Unlike the US

Specializes in Nephrology, Cardiology, ER, ICU.

Do you mean BN (international ) 1 yr course in Ireland ?

Do you mean BN (international ) 1 yr course in Ireland ?

No. Referring to credentials assessment of a US BSN RN to Irish NMC standards. The OP wishes to work in L&D which is exclusive to midwives in Ireland & the UK not staffed by RNs
