I'm considering working outside the US in 5 years or so. I'm a Certified Nurse Midwife educated in the US.

Are there any countries that do not accept US education in order to practice?

Are there any countries that have a high need for midwives?

You will need to get a license in which ever country that you wish to practice, as well as passing the language exam for that country.

As well as immigration procedures.

Same as for any foreign nurse wishing to work in the US.

You say you are a certified nurse midwife-how many hours training did you do to become a cnm? Did you do 18 months post RN to get your CNM qualification

The CNM program in the US is two years and is a Masters prepared program, which means that you will have an MSN as well as the CNM when you finish.

[Yes, as Suzanne said... in addition to my midwifery certifcate I also have a certificate as a WHNP. (Got a lot of mileage out of my MSN which is in womens health and was a CNS type program...) :)

I knew of a midwife who worked in NZ...and others who volunteer with Doctors Without Borders and in Guatemala. As a starting point, I would do a web search and contact midwifery school prof's who oversee the student int'l academic/volunteer programs.
