CPE credits and requirements for renewal of PH-RN license.

Hi,

Does anybody here know what are the requirements in renewing our PRC license? I heard something about credits that you need to complete or acquire before you can renew. How can one acquire these credits?

I'm a new nurse and my license won't expire until a couple of years from now but I just don't want to be surprised when the time comes.

I do think that it would be hard to complete these credits, if there are any, since a lot of nurses today are working outside their profession and they have to juggle between acquiring these credits and keeping their jobs which actually brings food in their dinner table. However, I also understand the benefits... We do want our skills honed.

Anyways, I think I've gotten to far from my question from talking too much. Can anyone tell me about these credits!

I renewed my license last year and the PRC didn't ask for any CPE certificate.

Just paid the fee, lined up for renewal and they gave me my claim stub.

Easy process.

Correct! In addition, the CPE as a requirement is not yet implemented because its not yet stipulated in the Nursing Law that CPE will be requirement to renew our license, the law only says that

"The nurse is required to maintain competence by continual learning through continuing professional education to be provided by the accredited professional organization or any recognized professional nursing organization"

In short we are encouraged or obliged to update our-self thru continuing professional education for us to remain competent, but it doesnt say that its a requirement for renewal.
