Bridge programs in Ontario?

Hi -

Quick question. I am a nursing student in New York who will graduate in May 06 with an Associates Degree in Nursing and write the NCLEX-RN exam right after. I already have a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science. I am immigrating to Toronto next year as my permanent resident visa was just approved. Here in the US, there are a ton of RN to MSN bridge programs for those who already have a previous Bachelor's degree, the thinking being, why force someone to get a second Bachelor's degree in nursing when they can use their RN education and previous Bachelor's work to go right into a Master's program in nursing. Are there similar programs at any universities in Ontario? How about online? (another huge trend here)

Thanks in advance -

Matt

I'm really not certain. I would suggest you look into U of T to get some direction.

I know that the U of A has a BScN degree course of study available for those who have a BA or BSc. Out here, you still have to obtain a BScN before you can do a Masters. I remember one of my nursing instructors was working on his PhD. He said a Masters in Nursing was building upon the skills that one obtained from working as a nurse. (This was an individual who went CNA, LPN, RN, BScN, and on up the ladder).

My wife is currentl going through as a RPN and wishes to learn about briding options to RN as well... she has inquired but most say you have to go to university for 3 years to become RN once done your RPN...unfortunenlty we can not afford that....we were wondering if there is any other way?? any options?? she has been wondering about going to US to do it? she has heard you can go to Buffalo for 1 year to upgrade RPN to i think LN?? i think thats the same as RN?? anyone advice how she could do it?? its really her dream and I want to be able to help... we are in Ontario..
