Thank you Williams75 for all the info, especially about ABEn (Associação Brasileira de Enfermagem ABEn - Associa?o Brasileira de Enfermagem), COFEN (Conselho Federal de Enfermagem Cofen - Conselho Federal de Enfermagem), and COREN (Conselho Regional de Enfermagem Conselho Regional de Enfermagem do Rio de Janeiro & Home | COREN-SP). I hope I understood you correctly.

    (1) So Brazilian hospitals are friendly to foreign doctors wanting to work in Brazil, but not very friendly to foreign NURSES wanting to work in Brazil?

    (2) I realize that there will be a decrease in pay, but I really want to experience/live in a different country as I did when I studied abroad in college before getting my USA nursing degree. Is there a national test for nursing in Brazil like the NCLEX-RN in USA?

    (3) Thank you for the job sites! What search engine did you look in? Did you just type "enfermeiro brasil" in the search engine?

    1. They are very friendly with doctors. I never met a foreign nurse trying to practice there. I met brazilian nurses coming back as honor guests in conferences. Never met anyone trying to come back to Brazil once they left.
2.Ok. Just making sure you know:-). I am not aware of such test. As I said, I never met a nurse trying to go to Brazil like you once they are here. You need to get in contact win ABEN, COREN and COFEN to understand what is the process to transfer your license from here there. I cannot advise you on that because I don't have any info. Let me know.

    3. I was a nurse in Brazil before I came in the USA. After you go to school there you get your license with these boards.
Let me know how things are going. I have some nurse friends in Brazil and maybe they can send you some info.
    Good Luck!!

    Hello,
I have a general question to all the Brazilian/US nurses. I working on a research project for my last class and we are reviewing Brazil and the nurse licensing and testing. I was wondering if you could help me. I have found online that there is an entry exam to nursing school "Vestibular" but I have not found anything on licensing or testing to get your RN license like we have the NCLEX in the US. I did find other countries are not required to hold licenses because there diploma serves as a permit to practice nursing. Any help would be appreciated. Even websites to view would be helpful.
As far as I know, We don't have anything like NCLEX-RN in Brazil. They were trying to institute the"Provao" what could be considered a type of NCLEX but they didn't got that done yet. As you graduate from your nursing program you automatic get your license and diploma. The transition from Brazil to US as a nurse is long. You have to be in the right school in Brazil(equivalent to US education), Pass the TOEFL, Pass The CGFNS and PASS the NCLEX. Just to get your papers reviewed to determine if your education is equivalent takes a while. It took me 8 months. Vestibular is the entrance exam to college. When you register you have to know what path you want to take (Nurse ,Lawyer, Teacher). I hope this is helpful.

Hey guys I am sorry for being away for so long. I am a Brazilian nurse. I got my education in Brazil at Escola de Enfermagem Anna Nery. Our degree there is a 4 year degree and you are considered a BSN when you finish. That particular program is good because is equivalent to American programs. That means when you finish all your credits transfer here . Once you are here you need to do the Toefl and NCLEX. I did the Toefl and passed but it took me 3 times to charm NCLEX. It took me a total of one year and half to do it all. The worst part is to coordinate the school in Brazil with CGFNS to get your paperwork done. I wish all the luck. I am happy to see some brazilians trying Nursing in the USA. I am proud of my collegues. If I can be of any help let me know.

Hawaii only accepts CES or CEP if International trained and both are offered by CGFNS. SO what CGFNS option did you pick?

    Hi Cuddlesutra!

I am a nurse from Belgium who wants to do the same thing you were thinking about. I have a Bachelor in Nursing and a specialization in Emergency care and Intensive care (I dont know if you guys have the same thing in the US). And for the next year I will be working in a hospital in Guatemala but after that I want to go to Brazil to work as a nurse because it is a country I always dreamed off!

So I wanted to ask you if you succeeded at working in Brazil and if not if you found out how the system works for foreign nurses to work in Brazil.

Or if anyone else can answer the question by now?

    greetings,

    Stan

    Hi Williams75,

I'm a brazilian RN interested in working in California, I got my degree in Brazil at Escola de Enfermagem Alfredo Pinto and passed the TOEFL, but now that I'm trying to apply to take the NCLEX they said that I need a social security number in order for them to accept my application.
How did you do it? I would really appreciate any advice you can give me about this and how did you make UFRJ send all your paperwork to the States.
I'm kinda lost at the moment and any help would be great, thank you!

For several years now CA will not accept an application without a US SSN. You may have to consider another state and then apply to CA once in the US with a valid working/immigrant visa

    Hi everyone!

I'm an RN in the US and I was wondering what I would have to do to practice nursing in Brazil. Can I transfer my license without having to take a test in Brazil? Does anyone know about this process?
