Thinking about buying an Accuvein 300...responses?

I operate two Infectious Diseases offices running and working in the infusion suites. I am considering purchasing this product Accuvein AV300 (www.accuvein.com) for my own personal use. Before I do so I would like some input from "real people" not sales people.

Any information, opinions,comments,complaints will be very much appreciated. Also, if anyone has info on pricing (nothing listed on website).

Finally received information on the accuvein. The retail price for the unit is $4,500 (to purchase outright). They do have a lease to own option which is quite attractive. two-hundred a month, one year to decide if you would like to purchase unit. no interest. If you do decide to purchase, the money you spent ($2400) is applied to the purchase. From what I understand it is a laser that responds to the hemoglobin in the blood making the vein stand out.

I figure if ur gonna spend that much cash go with the Prevue Ultrasound by Bard http://www.bardaccess.com/ultra-siterite-prevue.php

it will be more useful especially for the "fluffier" patients

If you have $5k to burn then buy ultrasound. As stated before, the Prevue is a pretty nice option at around $5k.

Really learning vascular anatomy and vascular access nursing will help more than the Accuvein, Vein Finder or any other infrared imaging device.

If you need a crutch then look into buying an ultra-bright, tight-beam flashlight like the Streamlight Stylus Pro. You can shine it into the patient's skin and under dimmed lights be able to visualize vessels as deep as 0.75cm (about the range of the infrared devices).

That is awesome, I didn't know that trick. I'm fairly decent at IV's but that is great to try for the harder sticks when things aren't popping. Thanks!

We are currently testing a prototype of a new Vein Visualization Camera from Near Infrared Imaging. So far it’s awesome!

Its hands free & freakishly lights up veins even on very dark skin and obese patients. You can actually see the vein runway and needle penetration.

They said they tested successfully on infants with collapsed veins and it even works without removing the isolete cover.

We are getting one of their first production models in 2 weeks at a cost well under $2,000.

You can see a demo on their website. We are working on buying a number of AVV-1s directly now at a discount...tell them Brad sent you and say you want a discount for the 1st models as well...

We had a couple of these at the hospital I worked at, felt they were pretty useless. Did use an ultrasound machine with success though .

You can buy refurb gen 1 Prevue ultrasounds for around the $2-3k mark or off brand ultrasounds for under $1k.

Near infrared is no where near as useful, accurate, or versatile as US and the dropping costs of US is makes infrared a tough sell...

Just very excited from using this vein finder as we get a lot of older people in AZ with brown (tan or Hispanic to very dark skin) and its very hard to find viable veins the first time.

Where did you get a chance to use one of Near Infrared's vein camera?

We got an early proto-type to try and they are not even for sale yet...
