Indiana State University LPN-BSN 2012

Nursing Students Indiana (ISU)

Published

Hello,

I am due to start the LPN-BSN program at Indiana State University in the fall of 2012 and decided to start a thread for fellow students who may be starting around the same time so that we can connect and support each other.

I'm in Maryland ;)

Temeika,

I live in Columbus, have you thought about where you are going to do clinicals? I've tried contacting the hospital here, but I have not receive a call back as of yet. I am willing to travel to Atlanta if I have to.

Hi Tootie88

Did you take the challenge exams. How was it. Can you recommend any study guides, books and where can I buy the ATI books. Thanks

hi everyone,

i'm also on my way to start in fall 2012. just finished and passed the mental health csm, i'll be taking nursing care of adults next week. anyone else from california? starting to look into possible clinical sites. do you contact the hospital directly and ask if they would be willing to proctor a student nurse?? has anyone gone through this process in california? any advice would help.

thanks :)

2brn09,

ISU have a site where you can look in certain areas where they have established contracts with clinical sites by former students. I found a mental health clinic here in Athens that has a contract.

Smashley10,

keep me posted on how nursing care of adults CSM goes. I'm trying to study for it with the help of college network. So what are you using to study for that exam? Ive passed the mental health CSM which I heard was the easiest and I barely passed.

Good Evening to all. I am very new to the site and still learning how this works but I was excited to see the variety of comments left about ISU. I just recently started my journey with ISU for my LPN to BSN. I was a little nervous but am very excited and anxious to see how this is going to play out. For those of you who are very Familiar with the program any feed back would be appreciated. I'm just curious to know what the process is/was for you once completed your Gen-eds. I know you have to apply for ISU but were you wait listed at all or was the transition very smooth details please.

the sanoma state/isu program is different from the normal isu lpn/lvn to bsn distant learning program. first you will pay extra to sanoma state for someone to locate a clinical site for your clinicals. the cost is a minimum of $200 for each clinical. there is some difficulty finding clinicals in calif and you may be placed in facilities that are distant from where you live. isu goes through a sham requesting your input on something called a clinical map. you are to fill in the names of the facility your are interested in and the contact person. allegedly, the isu contact person will contact the facility. however, isu has been placing students for years and know which facilities will accept students without a onsite instructor and which will not. the clinical map exercise is a sham. the program is intense and i suggest you take one nursing class a semester. if you do not, you are at risk for failing out of the program. those who are taking two classes a semester are spending 12+ hrs a day x7 days a week to keep up with the reading, writing, and other course work. there appears to be a great deal of busy work added to the course work.

Thanks for that info lady in scrubs. I was wondering about whether doing 1 or 2 classes a semester was doable as a working lpn. Now i know. I have been studying the ATI books for the subjects i need to test for. I passed a mental health course for my rn program i had to withdraw from. NOthing ever works out with my work schedule. That is the biggest issue with traditional programs.

Letitiakay, if you are in the California Sanoma/ISU program, you are assigned to clinicals. You must do the clinicals when they are assigned. The mental health can be done when you are available but the med surg must be done when you are assigned. This is different from the rest of the country but those students must personally arrange their clinicals.

I've been thinking about how to test out of the prereq classes without going through tcn, so any advice you have or if you could tell me how you did it that'd be great, im not sure how it works...thanks!!

QUOTE=Tootie88;5883033]I chose ISU because it was nationally accredited and a lot of nurses I spoke with in my area (At Johns Hopkins and NIH) said that it was a very good program.

I have taken all of my pre-reqs, 2brn. I'm definitely aiming to have all of m challenge exams done by June. I almost got sucked into TCN, but I've read a lot of posts that said they were unnecessary and too expensive. You only pay for the study guides and they are $630/ piece...No thanks! I will just make good use of the text books that I've already paid $200+ for and ATI helps a lot. And ISU already uses ATI so it's an easy transition.

Temeika,

I'm also using college network. I'm going to do the quizzes and practice tests today and maybe take the test tomorrow or next week. I'll keep you posted on how it went

Ladyinscrubs,

I called ISU to ask them about the clinical sites and she basically told me that as far as California students we have to find our own facility willing to accept a student and then fill out the clinical form and send it to ISU to approve. If they are not one of the sites ISU already works with then I need to start the process of ISU making a contract with them which could take up to 6 months. I asked her if I could just have the list of sites they already have contracts with to make it easier for myself and she laughed and said that's what all students ask for but they don't want to bombard those sites with a bunch of students, so they leave it up to us :(
