Ivy Tech (Bloomington)

U.S.A. Indiana

Hi to all: I was wondering if anyone is enrolled at Ivy Tech in Bloomington?

I want to (hopefully) to enroll in February for the nursing program and I have many questions about all of the classes and the order of all the steps you'll need to complete to even get into the nursing program itself.

I met with an advisor last week, but left with a question mark over my head. I felt sort of intimated as I sat there with the advisor talking about the program. I did ask a lot of questions, but (to me) and the response I received from this person was like I didn't have a chance of getting in or completing the whole nursing program.

If anyone can share some information on the program, what I need to do first as far as enrolling at Ivy Tech, taking the compass test and all the rest.

I really need and want time to prepare for the TEAS since I've been out of school for many, many years and I've forgotten a lot of math! :p

Thanks for all the help in advance!

I'm at the Bloomington campus, hoping for the RN program starting in Fall 09. I've actually learned much more information from these boards than from the school! I'd recommend going to one of the mandatory nursing information meetings, there's usually several during the year. Plus it's a requirement to be able to apply :)

thanks, but i was under the impression you could only go to the mandatory meeting after you did your teas. this is the way it was explained to me....apply at ivy tech, do your compass testing, do your pre-reqs, take the teas, attend the mandatory meeting to pick up the application for the nursing program.

i can do all the pre-reqs online before i even apply to the nursing program, can't i?

i know what you mean about not getting too much information from the school. it's a good thing i found this site, because going back and forth to campus.... i'm getting nowhere fast! (lol) :banghead::banghead:

I think you can go to any of the mandatory meetings you want no matter what stage of the game your in.

Don't be intimidated by the crap everyone will feed you. It is hard, but if you're really serious about it, you'll make it. Most of our dropouts weren't due to lack of skill or poor grades but - being late, missing too much, not learning from mistakes, making enemies when they should have kept their mouths shut, etc.

*Go ahead and sign up and get the compass out of the way, then you'll know what pre-reqs to sign up for.

*Take the TEAS once at the beginning, just to see how you'll do & know what to work on for the next try.

*Do your absolute best to get A's in the 4 pre-reqs they use on the application for NS. That would be ANP 101 & 102, MAT 111, & ENG 111, I think.

If you can think of any other questions, let me know. I'm also at Ivy Tech in Bloomington in my 3rd semester of the ASN program & I'd love to have a buddy to talk to!

i went to my nursing info session in may. before i even began any of my classes. i would think if you waited to go until right before applying it would be kind of redundant. actually, i hadn't even started yet and it was still redundant for me. you can pick up your nursing app anytime after getting your teas results i believe, but i don't know if its different for b-town.

i went to that meeting like the second week of my first semester. i've not taken the teas yet at all.

now, a year later, i have all of my prereqs done, and i'm doing my coreqs while i wait for my husband to get out of school. we can't afford nursing school for me and full time school for him at iupui at the same time. i'll take the teas sometime this semester and then apply for fall 09.

I have class at bloomington also. Anp 102. I am not loving it. ugg!
