Hi everyone! I just thought I'd start the new State forums off with an introduction thread. Please feel free to reply to this thread if you wish. Otherwise, feel free to start a new topic if you wish to discuss other topics that are local or state related. Enjoy!

Hi everyone,

I am from Vincennes, Indiana. I attend Vincennes University, the OLDEST 2 yr. resident school the the Northwest Territory! It was est. in 1801 by President Thomas Jefferson. It was called Jeffeson Academy. We have a HUGE monument honoring George Rogers Clark. It rivels the monuments in Washington DC.

VU got the highest ratings for Nursing By the State and received a renewal of accrediation.

We have our clinicals at Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes. VU also has a 98% NCLEX pass rate!! The class sizes are small and they provide all the math and science help you need.

I start the actual RN program Aug. 25th. I am scared and excited at the same time.

Anyone else attending VU??

Thanks!!

Karen,

I pm'd you...congrats on starting your education pursuits toward becoming a RN.

Barbara

I am from Kansas City and have lived in Indiana for four years now. I have been doing agency nursing for the past few months and have worked in Indy and at a rural hospital near Bloomington. From what I have seen, the standard of nursing care is much lower than what I am accustomed to and I am wondering if others have noticed the same? I do not actively work in the town that I live in because of that lower standard and very low wages.

I still recall being in graduate school and one of my preceptors was a Notre Dame graduate...wow, she was an excellent nurse! But, I have been very disappointed in the lack of quality that I have witnessed since living here. I would like to change that and have actively pursued politicians to support me through these efforts. Any suggestions?

Are there any hospitals in Indiana whereby unionization has occurred? Thanks in advance.

Barb, I'm in southcentral Indiana and am not aware of any unions. My facility had a very brief run at a "nurses' association" that fell flat, sadly. Perhaps in the future - sometimes things just aren't bad enough for people to take action (yet).

As far as standard of care, I haven't worked in other states so I have little to compare to, but I've thought that things are getting rough all over as far as hospitals, at least from what I've read on the board.

PM me if I can be of assistance.

Nurse Ratched, I have PM'd you so that I could be specific about the areas whereby I have experienced such standards of care. Thank you for not becoming angry at my post as it was not intended to do that, but I seriously want to make a difference in the care of this state-specifically this area. I appreciate your response and kindness.
